It was June 13th 1943 and Myrtle was sitting at the Ravenclaw table alone. She once again pretended not to hear any of the nasty insults thrown at her by her fellow students and took to staring at her plate, trying to hold back tears. It had been like this ever since she had arrived at Hogwarts. Even though she was now in her fourth year, the bullies still hadn't relented.
Her only friend, Amelia Prior, was in the hospital wing after being petrified and Myrtle felt more alone than ever.
"Hey mudblood," sneered Slytherin student Olive Hornby, coming to stand beside her. "Monster not got you yet then? Shame."
Myrtle choked back tears and said in no more than a whisper, "go away, Olive."
"Oh, 'go away, Olive'," she mocked in a high pitched, drawl voice. "Still not got proper glasses then. What's the matter? Can't your muggle parents afford anything more than circus apparel?"
Myrtle shot up from her seat and ran out of the hall, sobbing as she went. Headmaster Dippet and Transfiguration Professor Dumbledore looked concerned and began whispering to one another. Myrtle didn't even look where she was going, she just ran. After bumping into several students who were making their way to or from dinner, Myrtle found herself in the empty second floor girl's bathroom and ran into one of the cubicles, locking the door behind her.
She stayed in there for an hour, her sobs had turned into silent tears and knowing she would be in trouble if she was caught out after curfew, she was just about to leave. She reached for the lock but was stopped at the sound of the bathroom door opening. The sound of footsteps rang through the bathroom before stopping suddenly. Myrtle heard a male voice start talking. He appeared to be speaking in a different language that sounded remarkably like hissing. The sound of his voice was menacing and Myrtle couldn't help but feel a little intimidated.
When the talking stopped, Myrtle decided she had had enough. She flung open the cubicle door and shouted, "This is the girl's bathroom. So go -" Before she could finish, she caught the eye of another. A great big yellow eye staring back at her. Before she could react, she fell to the floor…. Dead.
