PAYING IT FORWARD
WOW: couple. It's new year's eve in the bunker, and Sam's doing some reflecting. 300 words because, well - happy new year!

'Team Free Will 2.0', Sam mused; it had a nice ring to it.
Two hardened hunters, a fallen angel, and an angsty teenage angel that didn't know his own strength. Together, they seemed like a motley crew, but Sam didn't care, they were his friends and his family.
He knew that any new year brought forward new challenges, new opportunities and, no doubt, a couple of empty resolutions that always died a death by the second week in January.
But this year was very different. Sam had made a decision. He'd already made his resolution, and it wasn't going anywhere.

For over thirty years, Dean had always been there for Sam. Guiding him, supporting him, protecting him; being father, mother and brother for him. And over that time, the stubborn ass had steadfastly refused to accept any hint of reciprocation from Sam.
Only on a couple of occasions had Sam ever been able to offer the same kind of devotion to Dean, and it wasn't enough to satisfy his lifelong need to return all that love.
And now by the absurd irony of their lives, Lucifer – of all people - had inadvertently given Sam the opportunity to see his wish granted.

Sam smiled as he watched Dean top up everyone's drinks ready for a new year toast. He'd made a token effort of offering Jack a couple of sodas, but somehow Jack had still ended up with beer.
Sam raised his glass to the young Nephilim; a lost soul, unsure of where he fit into a big unfriendly world, and frightened by his own power.
With help from Castiel and Dean, Sam would guide, support and protect Jack. He would repay Dean's lifetime of love and devotion.
Paying forward an act of love and kindness.
Jack would be Sam's Sam.
