Yes, I am ignoring Steve's birthday for this, because I just want it to be a drabble about Tony's love for explosions and fireworks. This is unbeta'd (she's currently taking summer classes in another country) so please feel free to point out any spelling mistakes or typos so I can fix them.
Happy Independence Day!
Disclaimer: I don't own Avengers.

Tony was a big fan of explosions, so it should come as a surprise to no one that his favorite holiday is the 4th of July (after Christmas, because, hello Christmas).
So for the first Independence Day after the Avengers became official Tony made sure all his teammates were A) in New York and B) on the roof of the tower at nightfall. They'd actually been doing appearances all day long, and Shield was thrusting Steve to the forefront, pushing the whole Captain America deal (he really didn't enjoy all the attention). They'd done a parade in the morning (which Thor had enjoyed the most), followed by a televised shin-dig with the mayor (which no one enjoyed), then that was followed by an interview (Tony and Clint had started a competition passive-aggressively trolling the media) followed by a meet and greet with local police, fire fighters, EMTs, and military members (which the team thought, as a whole, was the most worthwhile thing they'd done that day).
So, Tony made sure everyone was at the tower to celebrate the day properly. The roof was set up with a table full of all American food (apple pie, hot dogs, chips and cookies among other things) as well as mattresses (because the roof was not as soft as grass so blankets wouldn't do) and pillows to go with them.
Tony smacked his hands together and rubbed them. "So, is everyone here?"
Clint raised an eyebrow at him. "I'm sure you can count to six Tony. You do know there are six of us, right?"
Tony ignored him. "Yes? Good. Okay, forget any fireworks displays you've ever seen before, or in your case Natasha, have never seen-"
"There are fireworks in Russia," Natasha commented.
"because those are lame, lame, lame. I have invented my own fireworks, and they are spectacular. Usually I set them off in Malibu over the ocean, but this will be better, I think."
"Is it actually legal to set these off in the city?" Steve wondered aloud.
"I made some up-grades, and have really out done myself. It'll pack a bigger punch than Thor's lightening."
Thor laughed. "We shall see."
"Pepper wouldn't let me shut down the power to the city-"
"At least someone as common sense," Bruce muttered.
"-but the explosions should be bright enough that it shouldn't matter. Everyone ready?"
"Stark, get on with it," Natasha commanded.
"Right, Jarvis, when you're ready."
The sky was soon filled with fireworks- giant explosions in a wide spectrum of colors. Every color in the rainbow blazed in the sky, most of them in several different shades. The night sky seemed filled with the bursting lights. The Avengers let themselves relax and enjoy the display. There was oohing and aahing, laughing and clapping. Compliments were made and smiles were shared.
When the explosions finally stopped the team applauded. One lone firework went up while they were still clapping. It exploded into an image of Iron Man. While that likeness was fading another firework went up and exploded into a replica of Thor. One by one a firework went up and turned into an image of an Avenger. After all of them had been represented one last firework went up and burst into an American flag that seemed to take over the whole sky.
"Well, I have to hand it to you," Steve said when the flag had faded "that was very impressive."
"That was more than impressive," Tony argued. "That is the most beautiful and majestic thing you've ever seen. At least until next year."
