"Why does the goddess Din always allow one of such evil to wield the Triforce of Power?"
The princess' soft, gently inquisitive voice echoed though the still, chillingly desolate room, breaking a silence that had been carefully cultivated by her close-minded old tutor and held for almost four hours now. Said tutor made no move to reply to her for several moments, and so she decided it best to repeat herself.
It was an innocent enough question, you or I would think, from an innocent enough girl. But Rauru knew like no other the sheer madness in her words, the magnitude of blasphemy in what she was insinuating, both of which aggravated him immeasurably. How could such an insolent fourteen-year-old be the sole sovereign of Hyrule, the only remaining member of the Royal Family? And why was he, of all the undeserving people, stuck with her?
She lifted her head this time, chestnut locks shimmering in the candlelight, and turned from her history book with a seldom triggered glint of curiosity shining at the back of her large, amethyst eyes – frighteningly intense for someone so young – which somehow always managed to coax one into answering her silly questions despite the lack of expression otherwise.
However, as she dared continue, Rauru found he could not tolerate her ridiculous curiosities any longer.
"It's almost as though she wanted him to wreak havoc across the realms, don't you think, sir? And her sisters, they do not object... I wonder why? I mean, there seems to be a gap in the legend anyhow, something missing of which we either do not know or will not speak. The way that the princess and the kokiri boy simply know what to do about the Gerudo king? I wonder, does the triforce not differentiate between good and evil? Are good and evil only man-made concepts, and not those of the goddesses?"
"Zelda!"
Rauru knew only too well that to strike a princess would be a one way ticket to the guillotine, and so he felt it a well deserved credit to himself to shush her before he lost his composure and did exactly that. He cleared his throat raspily before he replied as calmly as he could manage.
"Din is not evil, your Highness. Ganondorf, for whatever horrible reasons, chose himself to follow the dark path – his decisions had nothing to do with our beloved goddess."
"I wasn't accusing her of evil, sir, not at all. I was merely observing that every Triforce of Power since the time of my ancestors has belonged to someone evil – or, if good and evil perhaps do not exist, someone who misused it – not solely the one that Ganondorf possessed. Almost as though evildoers are incapable of wisdom or courage, which cannot truly be so. There are simply different types of wisdom and courage, and for that matter, power, too," she contradicted patiently.
There was a pause, during which the tutor felt he might explode and the student began to lose her interest as a result of his insufficient responses.
She sighed.
"I suppose that means you don't know. Never mind, then, sir – forget I ever asked."
That ridiculous, persistent little – wait, what? That was it?
He watched as the princess turned back to the tedious task he had assigned her, and suddenly found himself focused in the attempt to decipher her queer personality.
Alas, Rauru did not have the capacity to take on such an arduous task. Finally, after several minutes of indulging in this new employment, he gave up on it entirely and proceeded to resume his own work. Just this once, he supposed, he'd forget her oddities. Just this once.
Sweet Nayru... he'd never understand that strange, strange orphan.
A/N: I wrote this forever ago, it's perhaps two years old, and I found it lurking in my documents the other day. It made me smile a little, so here it is; little TP Zelda being an adorable little nerd. c:
