He comes into his room at night, each night as he students, all but one, sleep, soundly and safely, in their beds. He breezes into his open window, and Charles does nothing to stop him. He welcomes him, instead, with open arms and a loving kiss. Every night, it's the same. He warns him. "We can't tell anyone."
He always agrees, and then for a few hours, while the world slumbers, they are no longer Magneto and Professor X. Their differing dreams no longer hold power over them. Their students do not separate them and need never know that they come together like this, like the old friends and more that they are, like the true loves they will always be no matter how hard they fight to deny what has and will always be in their hearts.
The world does not need to know, and it doesn't. Their students are better off not knowing, but one does. She lays awake, her green eyes wide with unspoken fear and hushed excitement, as she feels them make love. They meld together, heart, body, soul, and mind. Jean knows Charles truly loves Erik, and he loves him, and so she keeps their secret all the way to her grave.
