T: I have no want to spoil the plot of this one shot so I'll just skip to the disclaimer…I own nothing here apart from the teeny tiny plot line!

The endless green of his eyes show, so very clearly, the every longing and every hurt, there to assess and disassemble at will.
As Sakurazukamori she can little comprehend the emotions in his eyes…can little comprehend how anyone can feel such things and become strong.
Yet he is strong…this clear in the muscles of his body and the wall hidden well behind the emotion in his eyes.
"Why are you here?"
He tenses a little at the sound of her voice yet retains still a confidence in his stance,
"I came to discuss the matter of my son, but I would do as such to your face rather than to your tree."
"As you wish."
He bows deeply as she comes to stand before him, the formality of the gesture an oddity that she has long become used to associating with the other.
"Do you wish to ask me of the odd destiny that has been foretold for your son?"
"You have been spying."
"Yes and yet so have you."
"As amusing as it would be to swap blame I have want to get to the rout of the matter."
"Your son has already a magical strength beyond your own…has already the raw materials to become the 13th head of your clan…
"That power attracted the attention of the sakura and, after a month simply observing, the tree craves your child…wishes his soul devoured one way or another."
"Would not the nature of his blood be as poison to the tree?"
"You would think so, would you not? Sumeragi and Sakurazuka are, after all, of opposing spirits and yet it seems that we are born of one source…
"Are as two sides of a single coin and your son…"
"My son is as the edge of the coin?"
"Precisely."
The steal within his eyes shifts, fractionally, and at last she comprehends his presence his motives and their misguided intent.
"You wish to offer yourself as an alternative?"
"I would have my son live a life free of such a fate…would have him live as much as possible…"
"I would take your life gladly, Sumeragi-san…would even accept it in exchange for your son's life and yet…
"I can not promise you that this exchange will be honoured by my own son once he takes over my position, for he and the sakura are tied tight together and the desire of the tree may be enough to influence his own desire.
"Thus your death would be all but meaningless…would place your son into the same rigid lifestyle that you have worked so hard to escape."
"For the hope of his freedom I am willing to risk this eventuality…am willing to give all that I have to give."
"So be it."
She strikes without hesitation and once it is over…once he is lying motionless upon the floor…he becomes little more to her than a reminder of the weaknesses of emotion…
Becomes little more than another of the sakura's victims.

T: Short, sweet and to the point. The intent behind this was to explore what sort of man Subaru's father might have been and, of course, to look a little deeper at the interaction between Sumeragi and Sakurazuka.
R+R as I wish to know someone liked this!
