A/N: Okay, guys, this is the first thing I have ever posted up here. Please be kind to it.

The sound of waves crashing onto the beach mixed with the sound of gulls and children screeching in play on the sand. The white sand scorched the feet of all ho walked on it, burning with the afternoon sun.

" Come on Jack, it's useless even coming to the beach if your not gonna get into the water." A tall tanned beauty put her hands on her hips and stared down at her boyfriend. Years of cheer leading " Come on Jack, please." Jack stretched his lean muscles out on his towel, and ran a hand through his sun bleached hair.

" Ashley, you know I'm not a swimmer, I like to keep my feet firmly on the ground." Ashley gave a pouting look and flumped down onto the towel beside Jack's. She stared longingly out at the other couples in the water. They were all splashing and having fun while she was stuck on the beach with her no fun at all boyfriend. Jack didn't really want to propose to her while they were both soaking wet. But then again, that could be fun. He wanted to propose to her at sunset on the beach. She had whispered this to him as they drove out of their home town.

" Jack-in-the-box, your no fun at all." Jack gave her a sly grin.

" No fun am I?" In moments he had Ashley in his arms running toward the waves crashing on the sand. Ashley grinned, satisfied she had gotten her way again. They ran head first into the waves, getting cold chills as the cool water rushed over their sunbaked skin. When he got to about his waist, Jack threw his girlfriend into the water. " How much fun am I now," he asked while he grinned."

They swam together for awhile, every little while stopping to just take in the scenery and watching the little children play in the sand. Each of them thinking about what the future might hold for them. Before they knew it, they had made their way into deeper water.

"Come on Jack, lets head back in and go get some lunch."

" Yeah, that sounds good." They both started swimming back in, unaware of the danger that lurked just behind them.

Suddenly, Jack, felt something yank him under, and he tried to shout out for help. Only a muffled yelp came out before he was dragged under. Ashley turned around to see what was the matter. She saw nothing but open water behind her. Within moments, a cloud of red came blossoming up from the bottom like a poison flower. Jack bobbed up from within the cloud of what Ashley would realize later, was her love's blood. Foregoing her own safety and amidst Jack's screams she swam as fast as she could to him. A dark grey fin surfaced momentarily before he was gone, seconds from her reaching hand.

She felt herself being pulled back to the beach and started to struggle, screaming for her lost love. His torso, sans head and a few limbs, bobbed up to greet her. Later that night in the hotel room she was digging through his canvas beach bag, and found a velvet box. She opened it, and found a diamond ring with her name inscribed on the inside of the band. Rubies were set around the stone in a white gold band. It was beautiful, just what she had always wanted.

The next morning they found her laying on the bed, dead, with an engagement band on her finger. They think she died of sorrow.
