A/N: I just started watching Rookie Blue, and finished all three seasons in 4 days. Now I'm reeling for the loss of Jerry and McSwarek. So I've been re-watching 2x11 on repeat. I've been having so many feelings, so I decided to turn those feelings into my first McSwarek/Rookie Blue fanfic.

This is the first portion of probably a two-part/chapter story reflecting on the events between Andy and Sam in 2x11. It describes the scenes in more detail, and from a greater character perspective. We see the scenes play out, and a left to our own devices to fill in the blanks. And this is how I filled them in.

Disclaimer: I do not claim to own anything related to Rookie Blue. They just like to toy with my feelings, and this is how I deal.

Only One Night

A thousand thoughts pace frantically through his head until he hits the door and spies her standing there on the sidewalk. Her shoulders are hung high; she's stiff. It's a defensive posture she absorbs when she's scolding herself for going against her instincts. He has seen it time and time again, usually brought on by a momentary lack of confidence in doing her job. This time his own words and action are the cause.

Not a single consequence of crossing this line could overrule the pang that shoots to his heart at the sight of her, knowing he is the one making her feel this way.

He approaches her slowly, weighing his own fears and excitement. Firmly, he grabs her shoulder and pulls her to face him. She jumps slightly at the unexpected contact, but he can instantly feel her relax under his touch. Her brown eyes mirror all the emotions he feels coursing through him, but are riddled with questions. And those questions he can't answer right now, not without reminding himself of all the mistakes they are making.

"Let's go," he directs, a slight smile pulling at his lips. His hand slides from her shoulder and envelopes her hand in his. He marvels at how delicate it feels, against his own calloused one.

To hell with procedure, even if it's only one night.
