Warning: This fic might not make sense if you're unfamiliar with either Batman Beyond or Justice League Unlimited. Or it might not make sense, period.
But since when has sense had any place in fanfiction? *mad laughter*
An Offer of Justice
"Before we get this meeting started, could someone give a quick recap of the Justice League's start-up history? You'll see why in a minute."
"The original team of seven was formed in response to the White Martian invasion," Green Lantern answered loyally. "Later, after the events of the Thanagarian invasion, they recruited more members, eventually compromising the majority of Earth's heroes. Followed by even more invasions."
Warhawk muttered a "Show-off" under his breath. Aquagirl, meanwhile, focused her attention on Batman, who had posed the question.
"But what is your point?" she asked him calmly.
"That the Justice League has been severely reduced over the years," he responded. "And perhaps it's time we considered expanding our ranks again, reaching out to some of our colleagues."
"It's true our numbers have dwindled over the years-" Superman admitted, "-due to previous heroes retiring." Or worse. "But just who do you have in mind for membership?"
Batman's face got a rare smile on it, bordering on a smirk.
"Zeta. How would you feel about joining the Justice League?"
It was the first time Terry had ever seen a robot struck dumb.
Woo-hoo, my 25th fic! *does a happy jig* This was written partially out of my desire to see Batman and Zeta as friends, or at least as close to being friends as Batman ever comes. That and the element of poetic justice I found in Zeta, a robot built to kill, becoming a champion of justice.
