A/N: So - I don't celebrate Halloween for various reasons. But since the Winchester's don't either, I guess it's not such an odd thing. I've done something different, not sure its allowed for the challenge, but figured I'd go with it and see what happens. I've chosen a previous E/O challenge word from the list (avoiding the spooky/scary halloween theme) and instead of a 100 word drabble I went with 200.
Title: The Gift of Normal
E/O challenge word: flutter (old word from list).
Word Count: 200. I needed that extra 100 to say what I wanted to say :)
Dedication: To two people in my life that have requested from me a Sam centric piece. Normally Dean is my muse, but I fould that once I had the proper premise, the Sammy muse wasn't so shabby after all ;P To my mom(of all people!) LOL! and to KadySN. Hope you like!
Also - MeAzrael is holding the torch for the musketeer challenge all on her own this week. Sorry to leave you hanging, Kate! This was very last minute...and invocation just refused to work in this little double drabble ;)
Summary: Pilot AU. When Dean comes to Stanford for Sam with news that their father has gone missing...Sam doesn't leave with his brother. He stays behind with Jess. An alternate version of what such a decision could have led to.
- The Gift of Normal -
Jess was in love with the house. He could tell.
So could the realtor.
She looked at Sam hopefully, letting the final decision fall to him.
Sam took a deep breath, felt the pieces of his life fall into place.
This is what he'd always wanted. All he had to do was reach out and…
"We'll take it."
The words were barely out of his mouth before Jess was in his arms.
The realtor quietly excused herself, "I'll get the paperwork started."
"Oh, Sam," Jess smiled at up at him, golden and beautiful. "It's perfect."
She turned in his arms, leaning back against him as his hands found the swell of her belly.
Jess moved his hand lower and Sam felt the small flutter of life that was his son.
"I think he likes it, too," Jess whispered softly.
Sam couldn't help but think of his child's namesake and how he would do anything to give his son
the life that his brother never had.
Dean never really had a chance at normal, but he'd done his best to see that Sam got his.
Sam would honor that sacrifice the only way he could.
He would live…and he would love.
It's hard to imagine such a reality for Sam, especially in light of the events in the current (and recent) seasons. But thats what is so nice about AU's. The what if's. I can easily picture season 1 Sam in the above scenario.
Thanks for reading!
