Cole has never been one for sleeping through the night. That hasn't changed with the passage of the years. Like clockwork, he spends a few minutes each morning before dawn watching his infant daughter and son as they sleep peacefully in their cribs.

As he watches their breath rise and fall, he marvels over the journey that has brought him here to this time and this place. It seems like just yesterday he was a scav-sleeping rough and scrounging for food, not knowing what the next day would bring. Now he is a husband and a father, with a roof over his head and food on the table.

He quietly slips out of their room as he senses daylight on the horizon and slides back into bed next to his sleeping Cassie. She murmurs as she senses his presence and reaches out a hand to feel him next to her. He wraps an arm around her reassuringly.

"What will we tell them?" she asks sleepily.

"What will we tell them about what?"

"About mommy and daddy and how they met?"

"We'll tell them the truth," he says.

"And what is the truth, Cole?" She still uses his last name, even after all this time.

Talking has never come easily to him, but this time the words slide easily off of his tongue.

"That mommy and daddy loved each other so much, no amount of time and space could keep them apart."
