Dean was practically made for the army. His dad took him hunting since he was eight, and he served in the marines. John taught him how to kill and his Uncle Bobby taught him why. When your country, when your people need you you stand up and fight.

Sam went to his first peace protest when he was ten. After the fire scare in Sam's nursery when he was a baby, Sam's mom and dad had split, each taking a kid. Sam hasn't seen Dean in twenty years, not since John and Mary had decided it was best to keep the kids and their lives entirely separate. Mary is a bleeding heart liberal catholic and she doesn't see any disparity there. Neither does Sam, even if he finds charity work kind of boring and finds the penance part of religion most fascinating. Mary thinks he might be a missionary priest when he grows up. Sam thinks he'll be God.

Dean is the youngest Sergeant currently serving in the United States Military. He's a certified sharpshooter, a leader among his men and the top interrogator for his entire battalion. Dean is made of honor, duty, and he can hear their screams in the night, every night unless he gets senseless drunk and passes out. He's been recommended for officer training. He's been invited to countless officer soirées to flirt with the officer's wives and been fawned over. He's still got a piece of the last interrogation client's hair tangled around one of his bootlaces.

Sam is a hippie chick's wet dream. He's tall and pretty and his hair is so long and he just cares, you know? His eyes well up at every war flick and when they pass the bong around he tells of his brother who he's pretty sure is lost to the army somewhere with PTSD and trenchfoot, maybe. Sometimes Sam says something that cuts straight to the bone but you probably just misheard him or something. He's a nice guy, he really is, and it's a mystery to the dreadlocked masses why Sam Winchester, the most chill guy anyone knows, always goes out with those freaky goth girls with spiky necklaces and emo gloves, why his arm curls around them possessively and why he will rip to shreds anyone who fucks with them.

Dean isn't married. It's not like he doesn't love women. Nobody loves women like Dean Winchester loves women. He just loves sex a little bit more. Dean spends the majority of his time with his squad, who idolize him and would do anything for him. That's been helpful.

Sam isn't attracted to gender. He's not attracted to anything much, really, except a propensity for pain and a look of desperation. He probably just wants to help people who are hurting. Yeah.

God knows what will happen when these two finally meet. That's why he's hiding.
