Shark's Fin
Prologue: Friday the 13th
Normally a normal boy would have loved to spend his day with his family on his birthday. Opening presents, inviting friends, playing games. But not Alex Rider. He asked for peace and quiet and to be with his only guardian, Jack Starbright. And more importantly he wanted time by himself and take in what he has done and what he became. After Desmond McCain died, he had some time to think. How did he get from being a school boy from getting involved with spy games, gangs, smuggling, almost touching death, and becoming something he never wanted? Well that is why Alex is sitting on his bed hands together and looking down. The game Halo: Reach was on pause in front of him a T.V. He tried to push away the thought out of his head, but he didn't succeed to do so. He completely forgot it was his birthday right until Jack called for him.
"Alex, cake time!" Jack yelled out. Alex quickly went down stairs. Jack had the cake all done for him with 15 candles.
"What do you think?" Jack asked.
"Best birthday ever, Jack." Alex walked toward the cake admiring it as well.
"Well…make a wish!" Jack said.
"I already got my wish, to be back home" Alex blew out the candles.
"Oh gosh Alex you're late for school!" Immediately Alex took his stuff and ran out the door. There was his mountain bike lying on the ground losing its color all worn out. He got on it and started pedaling. He hasn't heard anything from the MI6 since he got out of the hospital. Maybe they were done with him, maybe not. He ignored the thought and kept pedaling. He always wondered why he was born on Friday the thirteenth. He went to cross the street when suddenly-the world spun violently. With powerful force he was thrown of his bike hitting the concrete with the side of his face. He had just been hit by a car. Everything was a blur, the noise of the street was feint. Now he understands why he was born on Friday the thirteenth. Only three words went through his mind while he was slipping into unconsciousness…best birthday ever?
