Confess! X3

I stood there, and all I could think was, "Wow. He's never going to realize, is he?" Ed and I were walking through Central alone, heading for the cafeteria. It was a long walk. I was dropping all the hints I could. Even Al would have noticed what I was getting at after hinting for five minutes. Ed was clueless, but I love him, so it's okay.

We walked down the corridor laced with doors.

"… I just don't know what all the fuss is about." Ed finished. I nodded, but my mind was far away. But I snapped straight back when Ed said,

"Hey Winry," and waved his hand across my face. I realized that I had stopped walking, and was drooling slightly. Laughing, but embarrassed, I wiped my mouth and said, "Sorry." I started walking again.

"So whatcha thinkin' about?"

I was going through a major flashback sequence right now. I remembered:

Al walked up, he seemed very timid for some reason, but he smiled, "Winry, will you marry me?"

I was utterly taken aback, and I may have answered too quickly, "No." I thought I had hurt his feelings so I quickly said, "Um… maybe you should ask me again in a couple years." He scurried away, looking very rejected. But the next day he was back to normal, and he never asked me again.

"Oh nothing, I was just thinking, remember when Al asked me to marry him and I turned him down?"

"Ummmmm…. No. But Al says that it happened."

"Well, I turned him down because-" He cut me off, "Well naturally you turned him down, you were too young to get married, and it's Al anyways."

"He's hopeless." I thought.

We finally reached the cafeteria. The boisterous noises of soldiers, workers, and officers enjoying their lunch filled the room. Ed immediately ran off to the lunch line. I sunk into a chair at one of the long tables. Across the room I spotted Lt. Hawkeye, or the former Lt. Hawkeye, Fuhrer's Assistant Hawkeye, either way Risa Hawkeye waved to me from across the cafeteria. She picked up her tray and walked over to my table, sitting across from me.

"Hello, Winry!"

"Hi Lt. Hawkeye." I said solemnly.

"What's the matter?" she asked.

"Well… have you ever tried confessing to someone…?" I said, looking away, trying not to catch her reaction.

"Oh." She said simply. "Edward?" she said, gesturing towards him monkeying around at the lunch counter.

"Yes." I sighed, hoping not to get laughed at. Just then Lt. Hawkeye did something I would have never expected. She started giggling!

She smiled, "I have thought about confessing to a certain person, and I tried once in Middle School… My advice is- be outright. A monkey like him won't notice a single hint."

"Yeah, I caught that…" I grimaced. "I can't muster the guts…"

"Well… you should just not think about it, and just GO. Get it over with, you know?" She giggled again and smiled.

I saw Ed had finally got his lunch and was headed over to the table, I took a deep breath.

"Good luck!" whispered Riza, picking up her tray and taking a seat a couple tables away.

Ed set his tray down opposite me on the table and sat down.

I stood up, he stopped, his fork in mid-air.

"Ed, I love you-"
