THE SNEAK PEEK. *Dies* Seriously, I could not stop...flailing and screaming and just everything that is a natural instinct to a fangirl. I'm just so excited.
Anyways. Read on, and tell me what you think! It's short, but hey, it needed to be done.
Disclaimer: I do not own Castle. If I did, the show would already be gone because no way could I everwrite something as amazing as what it is now.
"You're not in love with him, Kate. You know you're not. Look at your life; look at your choices. You know who you need. You know who you want. I'm right here, Kate. You don't need to run anymore."
Kate looks up at him, startled. She's shocked. She's more than a little scared. He's standing in the middle of her living room, laying all his cards on the table. His feelings are on the table now and they both know it.
Now it's her turn.
"You could be happy, Kate. You deserve to be happy."
She can't breathe. This entire case has just choked her up, but this is sending her over the edge, into oblivion. He's telling her what she already knows. He's telling her everything that she needs to hear.
Does it terrify her?
Yes.
Does it make her want to turn around and run?
Yes.
Does it make her want to reach up and kiss him with all she has, showing him exactly how she feels?
Hell yes.
So she does.
She's never been one for words. She's always seeked comfort by touch, by connection. Never by anything verbal or loud. And now is no exception; she doesn't want to talk. She wants to feel.
She hasn't been able to feel anything for a long time. Rick's right – she's crawled into her mother's case and she hasn't come out. She's numb. She's frightened. She's hunted. And she has no idea what to do about it.
But knowing he's on her now, with his hands wrapping around her back and her fingers grasping onto his hair, she feels. She feels him, warm and strong and comforting and…
And hers.
To hell with it, she hears herself think. Except it doesn't feel like she's thinking. It feels like she's doing a dance in her mind, trying to understand one thing and one thing only. Him. And she knows he's lost, she knows he's hit the dead end that is the edge of her. She knows he can't see anything else – but he's a writer, and a damn good one too, so he'll keep making words into sentences to describe her until he gets it right.
And oh, how he's gotten it right tonight.
She doesn't realize she's crying until he's wiping the tears from her cheeks and cupping her face in his hands. He doesn't try to stop her. He knows she needs to do anything and everything to just let it all out.
"You deserve to be happy, Kate."
She nods, her words starting to choke. She can't keep going much longer. Not like this.
Not doing this dance that they do oh so perfectly. She's done with it. To hell with Josh and Gina and anyone else that could get in their way. It's the two of them against the world now and she knows it.
She keeps nodding, and then she whispers: "I know."
