I got a message about a Laxuvia story recently, and since I don't have any plans to write for them again in the near future (or any ideas for them), I figured I'd just repost this for now. But really, I do love these two. I'll get around to writing something else for them - something longer, maybe - one day. But it isn't going to be today.
On another note, I'll probably slowly just get around to reposting all of those drabbles/ficlets from that weird collection I had before...
It was the rainy season in Magnolia yet again. It rarely snowed which was something Laxus wouldn't admit to anyone he actually found just a little disappointing, but it rained a lot. The longest it had ever rained in the years Laxus had lived there had been for nearly forty-three hours straight, and even if he spent most of his time drowning himself in booze in the guild or at some bar in town, he'd never particularly liked getting home after a night of drinking looking like a drowned rat because of the stupid rain.
But once he'd started seeing Juvia… Well, Laxus had come to appreciate the rain, but he hadn't really had much choice in doing so. It was either end up dismally single again, or put up with a little rain and the odd flooded apartment because of a 'mysterious' indoor shower.
That particular afternoon, Laxus could only be found staring at the blue-haired mage kneeling on a cushion in front of the window with her elbows on the window sill, gazing longingly through the glass to the rain that continued to fall. It had been raining for thirteen hours straight so far, and each weather report said the same thing: that it wasn't going to be letting up in the near future.
He heard a sigh come from Juvia and Laxus couldn't help but roll his eyes. He knew that sigh. He didn't like that sigh. "What now?" he mumbled, throwing himself down into the comfortable sofa and crossing his ankles on the coffee table.
"Nothing," Juvia replied quietly, then sighed wistfully once again. "It's just… Rain is so beautiful sometimes."
"Sure."
"Juvia wishes she could be out in it," the woman added, and smiled softly at the flash of lightning that lit up the dark clouds and the sound of thunder rolling over their building.
"Then go out in it," Laxus muttered. He wasn't her babysitter. He was her boyfriend. He didn't care (that much) if she got a cold for being stupid enough to go outside in a thunderstorm - but then again, Laxus wasn't even sure Juvia could get a cold.
She looked over her shoulder, and her big blue eyes were scarily filled with hope as she met his. "Laxus should come with me."
"No."
"But… Juvia would like to be lightning again…"
He just about choked on his drink then. "There's a thunderstorm outside and you want to do what?" he demanded. There was no way she meant what he thought.
"You know…" She tapped the tips of her fingers together nervously as she looked down at her lap. "Because you can teleport with your magic. You could hold Juvia and we go out together," she explained.
They'd done that before. She'd become quite fond of their little rides, but in the middle of the storm? Yeah, how about no. If there was less rain and less of a chance of getting fried, maybe, but when he tended to attract the worst of the weather and was soaking wet, he was going to have to pass. "Yeah… No," he shook his head. "Water and electricity don't mix. Ask me tomorrow when it's not bucketing down."
