Chapter 1: Oblivious

As Neville Longbottom sat there in the Great Hall reading his herbology book, he gave a start. Luna Lovegood had just walked by.

"Hullo Neville. Have you finished with your pudding?"

"Er" he stuttered "Not quite. Would you like to finish it?"

"Oh yes, very much so" she said delightfully.

Neville handed her the pudding and started to walk away.

"Oh, and Neville?"

"Y-Yeah?"

"You've forgotten your book." She said as she handed him his herbology book when a paper slipped out. "You don't want the Nargles to get a hold of it. They do have sticky fingers."

"Thanks Luna." He said gratefully. "Oh, and you've dropped something" Neville said pointing to the paper that fell out of hi herbology book.

Luna smiled at Neville, then picked up the paper, and skipped away.

Neville sighed. Why was she so oblivious to the fact that he was madly in love with her? It just didn't make sense. He gets nervous and blushes when he's around her, he's always staring at her, and she's all he thinks about. Luna, Luna, Luna.

As Neville returned up to the Gryffindor common room, muttered "Balderdash" to the fat lady, and dumped his book onto his four poster, he thought, Uh Oh, where'd it go?! Searching his person frantically for the drawing, he started to sweat. Where had he put it? He started searching his book; it wasn't there either.

I must've dropped it, he thought. Neville then retraced his steps all the way back down to the Great Hall. It was nowhere to be seen. What if Luna finds it? He thought worriedly. That could be a good thing, or a bad thing; she would finally realize how much he loved her and do something about it, or she would reject him and laugh at him.

He had to get back his drawing. Period.

Neville couldn't find it anywhere. Everywhere he went he searched and searche; no sign of his drawing. Why was it so important to find it? Because that drawing admitted how madly in love with Luna he was and he wanted to tell her himself.

He was trying to avoid Luna's eyes. He didn't see her very often; seeing as they were in different houses. Everytime hedid see her, he completely ignored her.

Luna didn't like this. She liked Neville. And not just as a friend. She liked how he was very nervous around her. she knew he likes her too. His drawing he dropped had proved it.

But lately he's bee ignoring her completely. She tried to talk to him, but she didn't even get two words in before he made an excuse to be somewhere else.
