Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who and never will. If I did, Rose would have stayed in as the Doctor's companion for more seasons than just two, oh and I definitely would be richer. But I do own Sophie McQueen and any other characters I make up.

Summary: Written in Third person. All Sophie McQueen expected when visiting her best friend, Rose Tyler, for Christmas was having a good time, spending time with her friend, and getting to know her friend's family. She definitely didn't expect meeting a man called the Doctor, someone who she had been told stories about, and getting involved in adventures dealing with aliens. And she most definitely didn't expect to fall in love with him.

Sophie McQueen worried her bottom lip, her glasses sliding down to the end of her nose as she stared at the old letter in her hands. It was from her best friend in England. Her name was Rose Tyler, and they grew up together until Sophie moved to America at the young age of thirteen, to continue her schooling in the place where she was born at. So, they started writing each other's letter, so they could keep in contact even though they lived far away. Though it was more common to email far away friends, Sophie and Rose continued to write letters back and forth, since it was a lot easier that way, at least to them. The one she was currently looking at was from a long time ago. Sophie had gotten so busy with school that she had forgot to reply to it. The letter was sent in March and the contents explained that her shop had blown up and she was now unemployed and she didn't know what to do about it. It was too late to send a response to the letter since it was now December, so Sophie slipped it back into the large pile of letters, which were in her desk drawer. All from Rose.

"Another letter from your friend?"

The sound of her roommate, Samantha Gilbert, speaking made Sophie turn around to face her. She stood in the doorway, her arms crossed over her chest. She was a short and slim young woman with short, spiky black hair with deep brown eyes. Compared to her, Sophie thought she looked beautiful.

She always thought she looked rather plain looking, with her wide blue eyes and her tall, lanky form, and her bookish glasses, which never seemed to stay on right. Sophie thought about ditching them all the time, but it was the only way for her to see since she didn't own any contacts.

Finally speaking, before Sam could say anything about her staying silent for a while, Sophie nodded her head as she turned back around to close her desk drawer. "Yeah, but it's an old letter." She shrugged, brushing her blonde hair out of her face.

"You really should put your glasses closer to your face." Samantha commented with a giggle as she moved to stand beside her and reached forward to fix them.

Sophie couldn't help but pout at her. "Hey, it's not my fault they can't stay in place, Gilbert." This was normal for them. Using their last names was like a nickname between them.

Samantha rolled her eyes. "Whatever, McQueen. I'm just saying it might help you see better, that's all. Or at least, get some contacts."

"If I had the money, I would." Sophie told Samantha, pushing her glasses further up her nose.

"Touché." She shook her head. "Oh, and that reminds me, your aunt called while you were out. She wanted me to tell you to call her back."

Sophie perked up when her friend mentioned her aunt. She loved it when her aunt called. Her aunt lived all the way in England, and she missed her a lot, even if her aunt did all every day, it wasn't the same as seeing her face to face. She was the one who raised her after her parents, in a car accident when she was just a baby. Sophie had been in the car with them and she had been the only one to survive the crash. She didn't remember much about her parents, but she still missed them. No one should have to grow up without her parents, but Sophie wouldn't trade her life with her aunt for anything.

"Thanks Sam."

Sophie smiled at her friend as she stood up and left her room to go into the living room. She went over to the home phone to call her aunt. Sophie did have a cell phone, but she mostly just used it for work related stuff. Even though she didn't need it for that anyway. She hadn't had a job since she started college, she didn't even go to college more. It was out of character for her to do, she had always loved school, but she was tired of living the same boring day over and over again, nothing ever happening. Sophie's aunt still didn't know about her not going to school, and she wanted to keep it that way. If her aunt knew, it would just break her heart and Sophie just couldn't take that.

Shaking her head, Sophie dialed her aunt's phone number. Like always, her aunt answered on the second ring.

"Hello?"

Sophie smiled at the sound of her aunt's voice. "Hey, Sam said that you called." She told her.

"Oh yes!" Her aunt said over the phone brightly. "Hello love, how are things? School going well?"

The blonde's smile faded at the question. "Yeah, school's great." Sophie lied, hoping she sounded convincing. "I got a high score on my Calculus test today."

"That's my girl."

Hearing how proud she sounded, Sophie felt extremely guilty. She hated lying to her aunt and she wanted to tell her…but she just couldn't. She told her aunt everything and anything…and here she was…keeping the truth from her.

"Yeah." Sophie quickly changed the subject. "So, was there a reason why you called?"

"No, no, love. I just wanted to check on you, but I was wondering if you were still planning on visiting your friend for Christmas."

Oh right. Sophie had nearly forgotten about that. Rose had asked if she would spend Christmas with her and her mother, Jackie. Of course, she said yes as she wasn't gonna miss a chance to see her old friend.

"Yeah, I'm still going." Sophie finally responded. "Are you sure you want me to go? Because I can come visit you instead." She would love to see her aunt too since it had been so long.

"No, it's alright, you go see your friend, it's been years since you've last saw each other, yeah?"

Sophie nodded, after doing the math in her head. "Yeah, seven years."

"So yes, you go see her. Oh, and remember to call me when you get there and…"

"If I see the Doctor, call you." Sophie finished, knowing exactly what her aunt was going to say.

The Doctor was a story her aunt would tell her all the time when she was little. About the adventures she had with him in his blue box called the TARDIS, something that apparently looked bigger on the inside, fighting aliens and saving the world. Sophie remembered loving the stories when she was younger, sitting up in bed, her blue eyes full of awe and wonder.

Then she grew older, and didn't like hearing them as much. She didn't stop believing in the stories, because there was no reason why her aunt would lie about them, and there was just something about those stories that gave Sophie hope that there was bigger, better things out there. It made believing them worth it.

"Love?"

Sophie snapped out of her thoughts at the sound of her aunt's voice. "Yeah." She told her softly. "Yeah, Aunt Sarah Jane, I'll remember to call if I find him."

"Alright, I love you, Soph. Talk to you later?"

"Definitely." Sophie smiled, even though her aunt couldn't see it. "And I love you too, auntie. Bye." With that, she hung up the phone and looked up to find Samantha standing there, next to the television. Her lips were pursed as she stared at the blonde. "What?"

"Are you ever going to tell your aunt about you not being in college anymore?"

The question made Sophie sigh heavily as she ran her hand through her blonde hair. "I know, I know, I need to tell her. Oh, I'll tell you what. I'll tell her after Christmas is over." Samantha gave her a look but she didn't back down from it. "I really will, Sammie. During Christmas, I'll think of how to tell her, okay? Promise!"

Samantha loosened her pursed lips and nodded. "Alright, well you better get packing."

"I'm not leaving until next week."

"I know, but you're going to forget about it if you don't do it now."

Sophie said nothing for a moment. "Ugh fine." She rolled her eyes with a pout. "I hate packing…" she mumbled as she left the living room to go pack, ignoring Samantha smirking behind her.

As she headed to her room to pack, Sophie had no idea how much of her life was going to change when she went to visit her friend Rose.

The Christmas Invasion, Part 1...

Right, so I know I haven't even finished writing Written in the Stars, but I kind of decided recently to go to the beginning of the story and write it entirely in third person, and maybe it'll be a better story that way. Still keeping the original Written in the Stars posted and will continue to write it while working on this one. Updates for this one will come up slowly until I finish Written, which I decided will end after the Doomsday episode and S3 will be in an entirely different story.

Another thing: after watching Letters to Juliet, I realized that Amanda Seyfried would be even more perfect to play the role of Sophie, so our wonderful character will be played by her now. If that's okay with everyone. :) Anyway, please leave reviews and until next time!
