A/N

This is my first one-shot... Reviews appreciated! (This is kinda in Zay's POV)

As the two Texans walked home from basket ball practice, chattering away about who knows what, Zay dropped down to tie his shoe, that had came untied.

Then, Lucas saw it.

A pet store. A new pet store. A good pet store. A pet they just HAD to go in.

Well, at least according to Lucas.

And of course, a boy who grew up on a farm full of horses, cows, chickens, and that old shepherd dog that seems to hang around every farm, just had to look in the pet store.

(The new one, the good one, the one they HAD to go into)

And then he saw "It".

Well, actually, Lucas said it was a he and not an it. But it didn't matter to Zay, and Zay didn't care.

Zay called it, "it"

And he didn't know why, but Lucas had to buy it. But "It" made Lucas so happy. So they walked out of the pet store.

With "It"

Lucas had said "It" was for Maya.

Zay said "It" was a stupid gift that Lucas would end up taking home, because his girlfriend wouldn't want "It". Then returning to the pet store when his momma saw, "It".

But he only said that in his head

And as they walked down to Maya's, with "It" in Lucas's arms, Zay wondered why he was best friends with the weirdo next to him.

Why?

Before Zay could get too deep into thought, the weirdo next to him shoved "It" in his arms and knocked on the blonde's door.

Maya opened up the apartment door and quickly greeted Lucas and turned to Zay when she noticed the thing in his arms.

"This is It. He's for you. Please thank Lucas, for this lovely gift. And not me"

After he said that, he put "It" in her arms and turned to walk home, leaving Lucas to take the wrath of Maya.

(Then the make-up kisses of Maya.)

Because really, who goes to a pet store in New York City, and buys a duckling for their girlfriend?

A duck.

A freakin' duck.
