Star Trek Voyager: The legacy of the untold Phoenix
Prologue
The sun was falling again on the desolate rock that they had come to call home. Kathryn Janeway looked out among the great desert valley at the small camps her people had built and the primitive houses constructed for shelter.
"Just another day in paradise." A sarcastic voice said behind her. She turned around to see Harry Kim.
"Harry, have a seat." He sat down on the burnt rock next to her. They were on the crest of a hill, overlooking the valley.
"How did the scouting mission go?"
"Badly," he sighed, "Captain we lost two men out there. They were attacked by some sort of wild animal."
"Damn." She whispered, and looked down at her feet.
"We also ran out of tricorder battery power. As well as depleted the reserves in our phasers. As of now… we are without any form of energy. My camp was the last one with functioning units."
Kathryn pursed her lips together as she stared out over the camp. After sitting for a few minutes in silence, she turned to look at Harrys face. He had always been easy too look at, no stress lines and a bright young look. Today as he sat next to her, his face was dirty and distressed.
"Harry, I don't know what to do." She whispered quietly.
"That makes two of us." He replied just as quietly. She leaned over and rested her head on his shoulder. They stared out far beyond the camps at the once-mighty Intrepid-class starship that was now lying in ruins, half fused into a canyon wall.
