Disclaimer: I don't own Monk.
It was a cold day in San Fransisco when Leland called Karen.
"Honey I'll be working late tonight. Can I bring you anything when I get home?"
"Yes," Karen said, "Jennifer"
Jennifer was their firstborn child. She had been kidnapped a year ago and Karen refused to give up on the idea of finding Jennifer and finding her alive.
"I'm trying honey," Leland said.
"I know," Karen replied, "I love you"
"I love you too," Leland told her smiling.
They had a disagreement once about six months before that. Karen had gotten furious and said hell would freaze over before they would give up.
"Listen Leland," Karen said, "Maybe your friend would be able to figure it out"
"Karen I may be a man but even I'm smart enough to stop and ask dirrections when I don't know my way," Leland said, "He's already on it"
Just then a knock on the door was heard and four-year-old Max came in.
"Honey," Leland said, "I have to go now"
"Love you," Karen said
"Oh by the way Max is here so don't worry"
"IS HE OKAY," Karen asked.
"He seems fine. He just walked in. I'm sure Candace dropped him off."
"Right," Karen said.
Candace was the babysitter who took care of Max and Jarred and up to a year ago Jennifer. Leland hung up the phone.
"Daddy," Leland said.
"Hey buddy," Leland said, "Come're give ur ol' dad a hug"
Max hugged Leland.
"Dad," Max said, "Do you remember when uncle Jake broke up with Ryan"
Jake was Karen's bisexual brother.
"Yes," Leland said, "Ryan was not happy. Why?"
"Didn't he say he was going to get back at you for causing the breakup?"
"Son of a... farmer," Leland said about to say Son of A Bitch but stopping so his four year old son wouldn't hear that launuage. It wasn't acceptable for the kids to say so it wasn't acceptable for THEM to say either.
"Dad," Max said, "That was the day before Jennifer was taken"
And the farmer reaps the seeds he sowed,
Leland thought with a grin
"RANDY," Leland called, "Get a search warnet for Ryan Jaykonsign."
"Why sir?"
"My son may have cracked the case," Leland said, "We may have found Jennifer"
"REALLY," Max exclaimed excited.
"Really," Leland assured him, "You may have cracked the case buddy. We may have Jennifer returned to us by tonight."
...
"Karen," Leland said, "I'm home"
Karen came out.
"Hi Leland," she said kissing him.
"Hi mommy," Max said jumping into her arms excitedly, "Can we tell her yet?"
"Tell me what," Karen asked.
"Remember when you told me to bring Jennnifer home with me," Leland said with a grin.
"Of cou- YOU DID!"
Leland stepped aside. Karen screamed with excitement hugging her for the first time in a year.
"JARED," Karen yelled, "Come in here sweetie"
Jared came in and reacted the same way his mother did. It was truely a happy ending to a sad story
