Chapter: 1 - Introduction

"Do you want to go for a drink at The Grapevine, sir?" Hathaway asked and Lewis looked up at his young Sergeant.

"If you're paying" he replied and a small smirk appeared on Hathaway's normally stoic face. Hathaway opened his mouth and then turned as the Chief Superintendent called his name.

"Hathaway, do you have your report?" she asked, ignoring Lewis who watched the seen evolving in front of him from his computer.

"Yes, ma'am" Lewis raised his eyebrows; he had never hear Hathaway call Innocent ma'am before. Innocent held out her hand expectantly. The man then moved to his desk and picked up the file, handing it over Innocent opened the file, her eyes wandering through the text. Hathaway stood there waiting, like a child awaiting praise. His face was expressionless, as usual. Innocent's eyes flicked up to Hathaway and smiled.

"Good work. Pity about Ginny, still not much we can do about that. Lewis?" Lewis looked up. "Can I talk to you, in my office please?" and with that she turned on her heel and walked back into her office. Lewis got up and followed his boss. Hathaway watched as his super and his boss began talking. Lewis was standing diagonally to Innocent who was now sitting at her desk. He couldn't see much; the beige slit blinds were obstructing his vision slightly. Hathaway realized he was just standing in the middle of the office, doing absolutely nothing. Leaning on the desk, he picked up the polystyrene cup and then threw it at the bin about five feet away. That was the remainder of his cold coffee. The cup gave a thump as it hit the inside of the bin. He heard the door open and Lewis's voice said:

"See you on Monday, ma'am". His boss appeared at his side and motioned for him to move. Hathaway got up and they walked along through the station and out the double doors. As they got into the car, Hathaway picked up the book on the passenger seat. He snorted in laughter. Lewis heard and looked at him. He held up the book. It was Dorian Gray's new book.

"Did you like it?" Hathaway asked, knowing the answer, as the car started and they pulled out of the car park. Lewis gave him a fairly dark side way's glance.

"That has to be the most mundane question, you have ever asked" was the reply.

"Well I thought it was good. Until this case" Hathaway said and he propped the book on his lap. Hathaway started to wonder who would be driving back. Because Oxford is not really a place for cars, it took them longer than it could have to get to The Grapevine. Hathaway looked out the window as Lewis turned the car into the gate of The Grapevine. Hathaway smirked. Oh look who was outside holding a pint of larger, this would be interesting.

….

Oh who do you think is standing outside?… Review if you think I should carry on. XD
