He was lying in bed trying to concentrate on the ceiling so intensely that it would consume all of his brain so that he could think of nothing else. Of course it was not working as the ceiling was flat and white and therefore it was impossible for it to claim all the attention for one such as Magnus for long. Perhaps, he thought to himself, a more dynamic subject would make for a better study.
Of course once again his efforts were proven useless as he should have expected from the start as there is nothing in his room, and possibly the world, that could distract him from him present worry.
One might ask what could so completely consume the powerful warlock. Well the answer quite simply is Alec; who presently was out god knows where, fighting god knows what with his young (and distractible) family.
Alec, the name alone brings with it a grand array of feelings for the warlock who loves him with his very soul. Worry and fear for the present situation: as well as the fact the he is mortal (while he is not. This fact that gets more terrifying everyday as the warlock can no longer imagine a world without his blue eyed boy.), pride(for being brave enough to be who he is) and of course an overwhelming feelings of love and devotion.
All that Magnus could pictured as he laid in his (but really their) bed was what could be happening to his beloved. While he could hope that if any were to happen that he would be called to heal whoever was in need, but there were no guarantees that that would be possible.
Therefore all the warlock could hope was that Alec would soon return to him so that they could both rest in peace; because as Magnus had come to realize that there was to be no sleep until Alec was safely back by his side.
As Magnus laid there, almost paralysed with fear, hours passed and Alec had managed to get back to the apartment and was endeavouring to make as little noise as possible so that he would not wake his presumably(wrongly though) lover.
Once Magnus heard the faint noises that indicated that he was no longer alone he srung immediately form the bed and dashed out of the room in the hopes that his Alexander would have returned.
Upon seeing him he immediately was over come with the need to assure himself that he had indeed returned without anydamage to his person. Therefore he went about throughly checking him for even the smallest amount of damage.
Once that pressing need had been satisfied, his exhaustion from the many hours he had been awake (and in fear) caught up with him. The tired pair (as Alec was tired from being on duty most of the night) then made their way to the bed in which they both drifted off to sleep almost immediately after encountering the pillows.
Now reunited, their souls were at peace and were finally able to seek the sleep they both desperately needed.
