First Meeting
Raphael Alder had been given the chance to prove himself over racing. The trio whom he stumbled on, Alfred Jones, Gill Wing, and Toby Howler, gave him the gracious chance of proving himself of racing. Toby took him to get a car and Raphael picked out his best car which he thought could win him the race.
His nerves were quickening.
Ruby Finch had been dragged out here by her friends, Ruthie and Nova. She had planned on staying inside when they showed up and tugged her away to the track. Ruthie had been wanting to see Gill in action and Nova wanted to see Alfred. The race hadn't even began and she already wanted to leave to head back home, her siblings surely wondering where she went by this point.
When it did start, both were feeling weak to their stomachs, Raphael because of nerves, and Ruby because she didn't really eat yet. The hot dogs here were terrible, and she didn't like them at all.
However as she watched the race, one car caught her eye as the yellow and green colors stood out and she gulped as she found herself hoping for the racer to win. She couldn't let Ruthie or Nova know because they wouldn't be able to let this go to rest and would forever tease her. Ruby bite her lip as she played with her red hair, and she hoped they wouldn't notice, only focusing on Alfred and Gill.
Then the winner was announced. Ruby's heart soared as the yellow and green car won. Her eyes widened when she saw a man; brown hair, a backwards hat of blue, jeans, blue and white jacket with a white t-shirt. She gulped. The man looked nice and she stood up after everything was done to greet Alfred and Gill, along with Toby, but she bumped into the man and he was quick to make sure she didn't fall down onto the ground.
Her father would've killed her if she dirted her dress.
Ruby felt her heart pound when she realized she was staring into mocha brown eyes. Raphael's eyes widened when he saw emerald green eyes. His favorite color. Emerald green. His mouth suddenly went dry and he gave a small smile, and stepped back so she could stand.
"I, uh, I hope you're okay," Raphael said, breaking the silence. "I didn't see you there."
"I'm fine," Ruby replied. "I didn't see you either, so we're even."
Raphael laughed a bit, and rubbed the back of his neck. He planned on just leaving right away to tell Morcubus the good news, but now, he didn't think he was going to leave just yet. "My name's…" She cut him off.
"Sir Alder, I know," Ruby nodded. "Everyone knows your name."
"No," Raphael shook his head. "My actual name is Raphael. I just said Sir Alder because I didn't want everyone to know my real name, y'know. Too personal."
Ruby smiled. "Nice name," She said. "My name's Ruby. Ruby Finch."
Raphael beamed widely as they spoke. Forgetting about everyone around them as they went on speaking, and neither of them had noticed they began walking around, Raphael buying her a drink. Nor did they realize how they sat underneath a tree, Raphael lighting up a smoke, and Ruby lighting up her own.
They didn't even notice Al, Gill, Toby, Ruthie, and Nova standing there with their own smokes. Alfred laughed his laugh, kissed Nova on the head, Gill rolled his eyes while Ruthie cooed, and Toby smiled. There was no way the two weren't into each other, but Gill tried to say otherwise.
"Ever been to a race before?" Raphael asked, as he sipped some of his coke.
"Yeah," Ruby nodded. "I have."
Raphael gave her a peaceful look and sighed happily, leaning back against the tree, looking up at the sky. "I didn't think I could win," he admitted. "First race and I won. Who does that on the first try?"
"You do," Ruby smiled smugly.
"Darn right!" Raphael cheered. "We should hang out more."
Ruby snickered. "I'll let you know."
