The tattoo on your arm is the first thing your soulmates thinks while seeing you - Luna had to wonder if the 'Dear Merlin' on her arm was a good or bad thing.

Very few people believed in soulmate tattoos; they were invisible to the naked eye and could only be seen by those wearing a pair of Spectrespecs. Luna tried to tell Ron about the tattoo she'd observed on the older wizard's arm - 'You've got dirt on your nose' - but he hadn't seemed interested.

Luna knew that her friends believed that the tattoos were just another one of her crackpot theories. Contrary to popular belief, Luna was more aware of how other people perceived her than she let on. But she simply didn't care that others thought she was 'Loony Lovegood'. She knew that the creatures and things that she believed in were real, and if anyone were to take a chance and read The Quibbler and look at the world through Spectrespecs, maybe they could see it too.

The Hogwarts Express had arrived at Hogsmeade nearly fifteen minutes before and the train emptied quickly. Luna skipped down the empty compartment following a trail of Wrackspurts when she bumped into a tall body.

"Oh," she said. "Pardon me, Theo." They'd never crossed paths before, but she was aware of who he was. He'd never been overtly cruel to her in the way that some of his housemates had.

Theo's eyes bulged as he observed her appearance; even Luna could admit that Spectrespecs looked a bit odd at first glance. He quickly shook his head and shoved past her. "Draco?" he called as he inadvertently followed the trail of Wrackspurts into the carriage that the upper year Slytherins had occupied.

Luna felt her arm tingle as the door shut behind her. She glanced down to watch the words 'Dear Merlin' imprint themselves on her skin in unfamiliar script.

So Theodore Nott was her soul mate. 'What an odd turn of events,' she thought. 'I wonder why he thought 'Dear Merlin'? But I suppose it's not so bad in contrast to what other people think and say about me.'

She pondered her new tattoo as she skipped down the Hogwarts Express, once again searching out the source of the trail of Wrackspurts.
