Sora kneeled next to the redhead, black smokelike wisps emnating from his body on the floor. "Axel, What's happening to you?" Sora asked.
"Isn't it obvious... I'm.. dying." Axel spoke. His chest rising and falling rapidly as if just talking took great effort.
"N..no! You can't!" Sora stammered.
"I already knew this was gonna happen... Don't sweat it kid."
"If you knew this was going to happen then why did you do that?" Sora cried out eyes watering.
Axel chuckled. "Why should you care? I'm your enemy. Unless... Roxas?"
Sora's heart skipped a beat. "Axel No d-" He blurted out but quickly shut his mouth.
Axel smiled weakly. "...You're.. here." He closed his eyes. "That's good to know... Now I can go."
"Axel don't die on me! AXEL! NO!" A different yet heartbreakingly familiar voice screamed.
Axel opened his eyes. In Sora's place was Roxas, tears pouring down his face and dripping on the strange multicolored floor. His Roxas. He looked exactly the same as that last day Axel saw him in Twilight Town, except he gave off a golden glow. "Roxas. You're actually here."
Roxas collapsed on Axel sobbing. "I love you. Why did you have to go and do that! It was stupid, careless, suicidal-"
"I wanted to save you, I didn't want you to get hurt." Axel whispered stroking Roxas's hair.
"But you didn't have to sacrifice yourself to save me! If you let Sora get attacked by the dusks then I could have came back."
"No. I didn't want to take away your heart just for my own selfish reasons. A heart is what you wanted ...right?" Axel said.
"Yeah, but I wanted you to get your own heart back too, so then we could both be together and I could love you more than I do now! A heart means nothing without you!" Roxas sat up and kissed Axel. For the last time. "I love you Axel. I always will."
Axel smiled. "I will always love you too."
"I'm glad I got to to see you just one more... time... to say goodbye." Axel whispered.
"We'll meet again. One day." Roxas said as more tears poured down his face.
In a bright flash of light Sora reappeared, a bit dazed. 'What the heck happened?'
"Go find Kairi." Axel said weakly. He shakily raised his hand and opened a dark portal. Then faded away. Sora watched the last wisp of Axel fade away. "Axel..." Sora sighed and a tear slipped down his cheek. He quickly wiped it away. "Donald, Goofy. Let's go and end this once and for all!"
