"Good morning my raven-haired profiling goddess."
Emily Prentiss paused, her hand suspended next to the pot of freshly brewed coffee. Tilting her head to one side, she turned to face the technical analyst. Garcia simple held the innocent look plastered on her face.
"I know you Garcia. You want something from me."
"Not from you. For you, my sweetness." With these words, Emily calmly turned back to her coffee preparations.
"Spill."
"Well…" the tech began, "I have this friend…"
"No!" Emily pleaded, spinning to face her friend again, "No more blind dates, Penelope. The last woman you set me up with stole my gun and shot her neighbor's cat!"
"Well maybe you shouldn't have been a slut and slept with her on the first date." Emily knew that she was just teasing, but the comment still stung.
"Cute, Pen"
"C'mon Em, you know I love you, but sleeping with as many women as possible isn't going to help you forget about her…"
It had been 4 months since JJ was stolen away from the BAU. And it had been 4 months of complete anguish for the profiler. She mentally beat herself up every day for not having fought harder for JJ… and for not ever telling her how she felt. But it was too late now. The blond had a new career, a new life. Emily put a lot of faith in her and JJ's friendship, but once their professional relationship had ceased, it became extremely difficult to find time through work and family to see each other. The blond press liaison had been the object of Emily's affection ever since the pair had first met. But by the time the profiler had finally managed to work up the courage to ask her out, a certain southern detective entered the picture. And then came Henry, and now, this. Maybe Garcia was right. Maybe it was time to move on…
"Fine. When and where?"
"So this friend, she's really excited about going on a date with you, so maybe you could try to be a little excited for once." Emily shot her friend a look that made her question her plan… but only for a short moment. "Listen Emily, I know I've screwed up a lot in the past, but this one's going to be different. I promise. And if this one doesn't work, then I swear I won't try to set you up on another blind date ever again."
"Ever?"
"Ever."
The brunette smiled a knowing smile. That would be a hard promise for Garcia to keep, but she trusted her. And she owed it to the tech to give this 'friend' a try, especially for all of the hours she spent listening to Emily whine about her feelings for JJ.
"John's Bar. Tonight at 8:30." Garcia could barely hide her grin
Emily sighed, it was going to be a long day.
