AN: This is a one shot that I actually wanted to be a longer story but found writing Severus a bit to hard. Kudos to those who can, didn't appreciate your talent till I tried. Review if you like or have any comments that might improve my writing. There's always room for progress. This is my take on the reality of Lily and Severus' friendship. I'm a huge believer of letting people go, especially if holding on hurts more in the long run. Hope you like.

She expected him to be happy to see her. After all it was her son that he spent more than half a decade protecting. However the man in front of her was far from impressed. The glare directed to her face which turned into his trademark sneer when it landed on her marriage ring made her perplexed. Until her own gaze on her ring brought some understanding to her mind. He was still in love with her, she was the love of his life. Unfortunately he wasn't hers. Not that she did not love him. He redeemed himself in her eyes. "Sev, why are you so upset? I thought you'd be happy to see me. James is not here...I asked him to give us some time alone." If anything the man in front of her looked even more disappointed and angry. "You shouldn't have Lady Potter." Now she was confused, this man's whole motivation throughout the war was 'for Lily', well now she's ready to accept him back into her life...well afterlife. "I don't understand, this is what you wanted right Sev, my forgiveness, well I forgive you." Severus took a deep calming breath before he answered. "No, no this isn't what I want. I wanted my best friend to forgive me. The one who brought extra food for me when she came to play at the park. The one who threw mud at her own sister for calling me a freak. She'd hold my hand and tell me that it's okay to be different because that just means I'm a little more special than everyone else. When I yelled and called her parents stupid because they are muggles she would wait for me to scream myself hoarse then tell me how mean I'm being and forgave me right after I apologised. Even though she was young she understood that my parents were not as nice as hers. She would have never considered dating the guy who build me through school, let alone married him. Nor would she have given up on me when she saw me make the wrong choices. The worst however was feeding the man who tried to kill me, and then call me the monster. No, those are the things Lady Potter would do. And lady Potter is no friend of mine."

Severus turned his back on her like she did all those years ago and finally accepted that his Lily was dead. He thought this would bring him great sorrow but surprisingly it only made him feel relieved. Free to go find the one who left him all those years ago. Who's loss he felt so sharply that he used all forms of occlumency just to get through the hour. "Took you long enough." He had tears flowing down his face. " It's alright Severus, we have eons to be together now." He was in his arms when he finally had the strength to reply. And when he did it was one word said with so much emotion that it sounded like reverence. "Regulus."

Don't forget to review or favour. Appreciate all those who do, and those who don't but read my work. Anyone who likes the idea of this one shot and wants to write a full story feel free. And don't forget to check out my other baby Discovering Me. Still working on it but loving it so far.
