Have you ever been so lightheaded, little white dots begin to cloud your vision? I happened to find myself in that very predicament. Not due to exhaustion or dehydration, but oxygen deprivation. Luckily for me, the son of the man who trained me intervened before I blacked out. I promised to keep him out of trouble, and here it was the other way around.
The Reborn Master, Dex Peck, released his force grip and I fell to the floor, gasping in as much of the sweet, crisp air as I could. I stared at the floor in mild surprise for a moment. That was almost it for me. A few more seconds, game over. I wasn't really sure how I felt about that, and I knew that this was too deep and philosophical of an issue to contemplate with everything that was going on. Next thing I knew, my partner was helping me up.
"Thanks, Bobba."
"Don't mention it."
I nodded, then walked over and retrieved my damaged E-11 blaster rifle from where it landed at the base of the stairs. Right as I did, something made us both turn and looked over at the enormous stone statue of Marka Ragnos lounging on a throne. I can't explain it. It's like that feeling you get when you think someone's behind you, like a sort of unwelcome presence. And I gotta be honest, that statue kinda gave me the creeps. I shrugged it off and knocked a hard fist against the chest of my ivory plastid armor a couple times. Then I looked over at Dex, our first of many bounties we were sent here to collect. This was going to be a long night.
"C'mon," I finally decided. "Let's get out of here."
