I wrote this for a Valentine's Day event on another forum and never got around to posting it here until now. No spoilers, it's just fluff!
If I owned anything, they'd be married already.
SO FUN STORY I ACCIDENTALLY DELETED THIS WHILE I WAS TRYING TO EDIT ANOTHER STORY BECAUSE I'M KINDA DUMB LIKE THAT. BUT I PUT IT BACK, OBVIOUSLY.
She can't see the clock in the dark, but she knows she's been laying awake for hours trying to get comfortable. He, however, has been sleeping like a log, impervious to her tossing and turning. She lets out a frustrated sigh and rolls over again when she feels an arm wrap around her.
"You should sleep; it's late." Of course, an earthquake wouldn't wake him up, but one little sound would snap him out of the deepest sleep.
"I'm trying," she says, her body automatically twisting to press against his. "Sparky's restless tonight," she explains as she feels a kick against her stomach.
She can practically feel him smirking at her as he kisses the back of her neck.
When they'd made the announcement months ago, Havoc had joked about the baby being a spark to Roy's flame and the nickname had stuck. At least it stopped their bickering about the gender. Roy was sure that they were having a girl, while Riza's intuition had her convinced that she was carrying their son. They found it was a much better way to refer to the baby than just saying "it" every time.
Now, his arms are wrapped snugly around what remains of her waist and he's murmuring quietly in her ear, just nonsense about how he's going to make pancakes for breakfast and they'll take Black Hayate out for a long walk, and from the foot of the bed the dog's ears perk up slightly upon hearing his name.
He slips his hand under her nightshirt-actually one of his old dress shirts, as her belly had grown much too large for her own pajamas months ago-and lays his palm against her skin. He rubs her bare stomach, feeling the baby move and kick back with energy.
"She's strong," he remarks.
"Yes, he is," she agrees, her tone warning him not to start that again.
He shrugs and continues massaging her belly, humming a lullaby as he does so. Gradually, she feels Sparky calm down and stop attacking her body, allowing her to finally relax and grow drowsy. She turns her head over her shoulder to give him a long, deep kiss before she drifts off.
"Thank you," she says quietly.
"Any time, love," he whispers back as he watches her eyes close.
Reviews make me a happy person.
