AN: So, this is the rewrite of Chapter one as promised in Chapter 7. I spell checked this to the best of my capabilities, but they're bound to be errors. If you spot any, let me know. Shout out to Azrael Akuma, thanks for the reviews. Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you would be so kind as to give me constructive feedback as to how I could improve, then let me know through either PMs or a review. Enjoy!

Also, I don't own any of the franchises if I did Halo 5 would have been better.

Manhattan, New York City, Stark Tower...

Loki dishonored Prince of Asgard shoved the door leading to Roof of Stark Tower wide open. He found the person he was looking for the mortal Doctor Erik Selvig slightly dehydrated and unshaven, with his eyes a haunting luminous blue. The scientist was leaning close to a laptop mounted on a stand that connected the machine to a high-tech machine that rivaled the Bifrost of Asgard in technological achievement. The machine harnessed the properties of the tesseract to open portals for an infinite amount of time through means even Loki was unsure of. This mortal though had managed to throw this masterpiece together in a matter of days. When the mortal looked up, his face was excited and expectant.

Loki took this as his cue and slowly pressed the tip of his scepter to the Tesseract, activating the cube and turning on the machine before drawing his scepter out hastily. With a whirl the machine activated and started to spin, picking up speed as it went. Finally, a brilliant beam of energy shot from the top of the construct to the skies above Stark Tower. When the beam was 500 feet above Stark Tower it opened and then nothing happened for several seconds. It was close to a minute when a ship of obviously not Chitauri make came into view as it came in contact with the portal. The warship was compressed as it came into contact with the blue tunnel through Space-Time and reemerged in the skies above Manhattan.

The vessel plummeted, even as thrusters tried to correct its orientation so it wouldn't land upon its damaged bow. The ship partially succeeded, when it impacted with a nearby tower it shattered the building on impact losing its forward momentum and fell backward. Its aft section crushed the street on contact, with the engine nacelles breaking through the concrete and asphalt. When the Ship finally came to a stop the vessel was leaning against the destroyed tower embedded in the street. Dust was still settling when the Asgardian Prince in disgrace read the war scratched block letters that legibly spelled out UNSC Forward Unto Dawn.

Loki turned around looking for that idiot mortal when he found the pathetic creature he was muttering under his breath and making observations as his fingers danced over the keyboard he was so intent on his work that he didn't notice the livid Prince.

"Stupid idiot, whoever programmed this was using imperial measurements when all our calculations were in metric. Doesn't he know all science is recorded in metric and, therefore, all science is in metric? Bloody fool. That should be the last error." Selvig was muttering barely loud enough for Loki to catch his commentary.

Loki had paused on hearing the scientist; he was going to enjoy destroying that idiot's mind for this mistake. It seems the mortal in front of him was, after all, competent, not yet quite expendable. Just to be sure that the portal would work correctly, this time, he asked the scientist.

"Will the portal open correctly, this time, mortal?" Loki asked still seething at the setback. Oh, what he was going to do to the fool that caused this setback.

"It should, but the code has to compile, which should take a few seconds as it recalculates all the values. I don't know how that fool was even let on the project to begin with,"When the computer beeped Selvig bent over the keyboard again as he entered in the coordinates.

"That should it, now all we have to do is activate it and build up the energy reserves again and the tesseract should be ready to open another portal."

"Very well, do you require anything else?"

"No, the tesseract is still primed, when the capacitors are fully charged it should open the portal correctly this time."

"How does that make sense? It's primed but not powered, what are you going on about mortal?"

"The tesseract was essentially given permission to open a portal with the scepter, but the energy stored in the capacitors are what provide the tesseract with the energy to open the portal. I'm not too sure on the specifics, some German engineers built it, not me. Basically, The tesseract has to be fully powered in order to become self-sustaining anything less and it just uses that energy up and…" he stopped when the door to the interior of Stark tower slammed shut, Loki had left a couple of second ago when his question was answered.

En route to Stark Tower...

Tony Stark slowed in mid-air hovering for a second before shooting off again towards his tower, had he really just seen a damaged starship fall from the sky out of nowhere? And why did it have English writing on the hull? Was it inhabited, or was it a ghost ship? Was it friendly? Tony slowed down and hovered orbiting the rooftop of Stark tower looking at the jumble of wires, machinery, and computers hooked up to the Tesseract.

Jarvis spoke to Tony,"Sir, I've turned off the Arc reactor. It's too late the device is already self-sustaining."

Dr. Selvig was near the mess and was standing there with an expectant look on his face, his eyes glowing under the enthrallment.

Tony tried another approach,"Shut it down!"

"It's too late," Selvig turned to the machine, "It can't stop now. She wants to show us something! A new universe"

"Mmkay," Tony said and raised his hands to fire a blast from the stabilizers. The blast was absorbed into a sphere around the machine and was regurgitated right back at him in a small explosive beam.

Tony reeled and stabilized himself staring at the machine. His mind puzzled over how it could have happened and arrived at an answer at the same time Jarvis did.

"That barrier is pure energy, it's unbreachable" with a tone of lost hope

"Ya, I got that," Stark said as he looked down to see Loki smirking at him."Plan B"

"Sir the Mark Seven is not ready for deployment..." Jarvis stated with a hint of alarm.

Stark interrupted him, "Then skip the spinning rims 'cause we're on the clock." Stark landed on the balcony that unsuited him from his armor as he walked into his suite. Loki had reached inside before him and sarcastically said," Please tell me you're going to appeal to my humanity."

"Uh, actually I'm planning to threaten you." Tony corrected, his hands behind his back hiding his hands from Loki's view.

"You should have left your armor on for that," Loki quipped.

"Ya, it's seen a bit of mileage and you got the glow stick of destiny," Tony said

pausing a bit before asking,"Would you like a drink?" as he moved to the bar.

"Spoiling me won't change anything." Loki pointed out.

Tony interjected," No, threatening. No drink, you sure? I'm havin' one." he grabbed a glass and decanter of aged whiskey.

"The Chitauri are coming. Nothing will change that. What have I to fear?" Loki asked rhetorically thinking himself invincible.

"The Avengers", Tony burst his bubble of triumph while pouring a glass of whiskey

Loki was confused and looked at Stark to elaborate

"It's what we call ourselves. Sort of like a team, Earth's mightiest heroes kind of thing."

"Yes, I've met them!" Loki said sarcastically.

"Ya," Tony said with a laugh, "takes us a little bit to get any traction on that one, but let's do a headcount here. Your brother the demi-god, a super soldier," Tony quickly slipped on the tracking bracelets as he continued while Loki's back was turned." A living legend who kinda lives up to the legend, a man with breathtaking anger management issues, and a couple of master assassins, and you, big fella, you've managed to piss off every single one of them".

"That was the plan" Loki explained as he revealed his brilliance.

"Not a great plan, Tony pointed out," when they come and they will. They'll come for you."

"I have an army." Loki deadpanned drilling the concept of an army into Stark's head.

"We have a hulk," Tony said as he closed the distance between them.

"I thought the beast had wandered off..." Loki gloated.

" 're missing the point. There's no throne, there's no version of this where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes and maybe it's too much for us, but it's all on you. Cause if we can't defend the Earth you can be damn well sure we'll avenge it." He took a drink of his liquor nonchalantly.

Loki ominously stalked towards Stark, "How will your friends have time for me when they're so busy fighting you?"

Charging his spear Loki tapped Tony on the chest over his heart and failed to enthrall Stark. Something was in the way. Very confused Loki tried again."This usually works" he said with his face scrunched up in confusion.

"Well, performance issues are not uncommon, one out of five..." Loki picked Tony up by the throat and threw him to the floor.

"Jarvis anytime now", Tony groaned as he stood up. And was grabbed again by Loki

"You will all fall before me!" Loki hissed in a wrathful tone.

"Deploy! Deploy!" Sark was thrown through the window. Followed shortly after by a missile deployed Iron Man armor suit, the Mark seven.

The Mark seven tracked Tony and began to encase Stark after catching up to him. Fully suited up Stark slowed his plummet feet from the sidewalk.

Loki looked out the window and glared at Stark as the armored idiot taunted "And there's one other person you pissed off. His name was Phil."

Tony shot the Asgardian with a beam and looked up as a portal opened, correctly this time, and permitted the army of aliens Loki referred to as Chitauri to pour through. Zooming away and entering combat mode Iron Man blew away a few alien airships with his hands and launched a smart missile that split up into smaller missiles and destroyed at least two dozen; after his missile attack, Stark was hit and lost his momentum and fell. His thrusters kicked in and slowed his descent, but he eventually slammed into the crashed spaceship from earlier.

"Sir, there is a transmission originating from the ship. I'll play it for you if you would like?"

"Patch it through Jarvis."

"Very well Sir."

A female voice suddenly said,"Hello is anyone picking this up?"

"Hello, who is this?"Tony said while attacking a group of Chitauri Chariots.

"This is UNSC AI CTN 0452-09 Cortana, I'm on the ship; I need help." the AI known as Cortana said in a life-like voice carrying multiple emotions in it: worry, fear, hope, and desperation.

"I'm sorry, but right now I'm kinda of busy." he dodged a barrage of shots from the Chitauri aircraft and foot soldiers.

"I know I can see what's going on on the sensors and I could help, but first, I need you to help me. Restore power to one of my systems." Cortana pleaded.

"Why would I do that?" Tony inquired while blasting flier out of the sky.

"I have point defense turrets on the hull; if they were brought online I could buy you some more time. Please!" Cortana explained her desperation more evident in her voice.

"Sure, I'll scratch your back, but how do I get in?" H orbited the ship and wondered about its capabilities. The heavy armor on it hull and the various weapon emplacements dotting its hull all declared it was built for war. This certainly wasn't the Starship Enterprise.

"Our bow is actually the whole ship's amidships, there are several breaches that expose hallways that you could take to get to me, I'll leave the doors unlocked, but you might have to bypass some of them physically" Cortana explained.

"Sure," Tony said he was surprised at the revelation that this was only half a ship, even though it was halved it rivaled the Helicarrier. Tony flew into the building that was decimated under the Forward Unto Dawn's hull, ignoring the bodies of people that hadn't made it out in time. He found an opening, but it was blocked by a block of concrete rubble, which he blasted away. Stark flew up into the ship, past the molten deck plates and wall panels. He hovered down the ship's corridor, doors with green lights opened as he neared them. One was stuck closed and he was forced to blast it open.

At last, he had made it into what a sign had called a Cryo-Bay, where snow had accumulated. On a pedestal attached to the floor was a glowing blue avatar of what Tony assumed to be Cortana. She was a blue-hued woman with algorithms scrolling down her body and besides some darker stylistic marking covering her more sensitive parts. Her hair was shoulder length, layered and tapered, the hair closest to her face was longest and gradually shortened in length as it moved to the back of her digital head. Her face was lovely and convey emotions so well Tony was convinced she was a human being.

"Thanks for helping. I need you to reset the power breakers on Level 3, it's just before the Fusion reactor. I'll mark the elevators on your HUD." She said in a grateful voice.

"How are you gaining access to my suit? Fusion reactors? I have some questions lady." Tony said in an oddly amused voice, which managed to convey his excitement at the same time it carried an element of seriousness.

"I know I'll give you an explanation when we're out of this okay."

"I'll hold you to that." Stark joked.

"Alright, now get going!" Cortana said, her tone lighter than it was before.

Tony followed the blue dot on his HUD and soon enough came to a door of an elevator, Cortana had opened the doors and let him in, while the elevator was on the floor above. While he was hovering down to the third level he heard a snap then a strained metallic creak.

"Stark, get out of there. I lost control of the elevator, it's coming down." Cortana yelled, prompting Tony to accelerate down the elevator shaft and through the door that had opened on the third floor. A split second after Stark's legs crossed through the doorway, the multiton elevator roared past until it crashed into the bottom of the shaft in a boom.

"Cortana what happened?" Tony asked his heart racing.

"The elevator's mechanisms were damaged and the strain of holding it up caused them to fail altogether. Sorry, but the good news is that you're almost to the power breakers, just at the end of this hall."

"Gotcha," Tony said as he shot forward, and pulled up to the control panel. He recognized a majority of the panels and labels, even if they were just much more advanced than he had ever seen them before. He hit the reset button, which Cortana had graciously highlighted on his HUD and power began to stream through the ship once again. As soon as the light went on, cannons began firing and explosions were heard.

"I have enough rounds to last about twelve minutes of constant fire, and if all else fails I can start launching Archer missiles at the larger contacts."

"What larger contacts?"

"They look like worms or maybe snakes mixed with whales, all armored up and ugly," Cortana said, "I'm designating them Leviathans, and the smaller one look like ancient Chariots if the could fly. So they'll be tagged as Chariots. Who are we dealing with by the way?" Cortana asked out of curiosity.

"Chitauri, they're under the command of Loki, Prince of Asgard, he's Thor's brother. He wants to take over the Earth or something like that, but he's not mentally stable." Tony said as he flew up the elevator shaft and back towards Cortana.

"Loki as in the god of mischief, and Thor as in the god of lightning and wielder of the hammer Mjolnir?" Cortana asked with a voice full of bewilderment.

"Yeah, the same. Thor's pretty cool, if a bit different." Tony said as he pulled in. What he saw was a surprise. Cortana wasn't alone anymore, a massive being in olive green and black armor with a golden visor helmet stood in front of her pedestal with a rifle unlike anything Stark had seen before. Faster than either he or Jarvis could track the armored soldier snapped his rifle to his shoulder and had it aimed at Tony.

"Chief, he's a friend. Stark this is the Master Chief, he's with me." Cortana explained. The soldier lowered his rifle but didn't remove his finger from the trigger Stark noticed.

"Cortana what's the situation. I hear the PDFs firing, are we under attack?"

"Not directly Chief, the Dawn was pulled through a portal, we landed in what appears to be early 21st century Manhattan Island in the United States of America. I have several theories, but right now civilians are being targeted by an invading alien military that Stark tells me is called the Chitauri under the command of Loki, Norse god of mischief." Cortana explained to the impassive soldier, who only nodded in response and moved to do something to Cortana's pedestal. She disappeared off the projector, but her voice still sounded from the ship, and when the Chief slotted a chip with a glowing circular core into his helmet, her voice projected out from his Armor.

"Can you show me to the armory? I'll need more than this Assault Rifle if we have an entire army to fight again." Chief said.

"Wait a second again? Who are you, dude?"

"I'm Master Chief Spartan 117 of the United Nations Space Command Defense Force Naval Special Warfare Division." Master Chief said by way of introduction as he marched off, he knees slightly bent as he jogged down the sloped hall.

Cortana spoke in Stark's' Iron Man helmet a second later, "We'll be out in a few minutes, go and help the others. Tony nodded and rocketed off, twisting down the halls of the Forward Unto Dawn until he bursts out into the ruined building it was leaning against.

He rocketed off and started firing on Chitauri foot soldiers that had pinned down several police officers. As he picked off the aliens he noticed the lack of the other Avengers.

"Captain, where are you? Natasha, Barton? Thor? Where are you guys?"

"Stark, where the hell are you? We got shot down, we crashed 2 miles away from your building and we're pinned down." Clint shouted into his radio.

"I was busy helping get some more support. You know that warship that came through before the Chitauri?" Stark asked slightly amused as he shot off towards his teammates.

"Yeah, what of it?" Barton asked, a twang of a bow was heard as he fired off an arrow followed by a screech of pain then an explosion as the arrow detonated.

"It's a friendly vessel or half of a vessel, I reset its power breakers and its AI is giving us anti-Air fire and missile support. We also got a big guy in armor coming in to help, he's just gearing up right now." Tony said smugly before adding, "so technically I've done more than you so far." He finished as he blasted away the aliens pinning the Avengers down in a hail of smart missiles.

"Now isn't the time Tony. We need to get to Stark tower." Captain America said as he retrieved his shield from the Quinjet. It had come undo from his back in the impact when he slammed into the wall of the troop bay and subsequently slid out of the jet, just before it crashed into a piece of abstract corporate art decorating the plaza of the Skyscraper they had landed in.

"Just a second boys," Natasha said as she tied a tourniquet around her forehead where she had slammed her head into the control panel when they crashed. Blood flowed down her face, crimson contrasting with her auburn curls.

"Are you guys okay?" Stark asked, his face plate sliding up to reveal his concerned face.

"No one else is able to stop these guys Tony, we don't have a choice if we're okay or not," Barton said, standing up from the cover he had managed to find in the plaza. Tony couldn't miss the dark red blotch on his stomach.

"Guys, what about the National Guard or something? SHIELD forces, we can't be the only ones. We don't even have Bruce. Thor and I can do a lot, but I don't even see him."

"National Guard is mobilizing, but they're thirty minutes out at the earliest. Thor went after Loki to get him to call this off." Natasha said as she started to check if her Glock G-26s were still functional. Satisfied she holstered them and began to jog off, followed by Barton and Rogers. Tony stared after them before taking to the air again to clear their way back to Stark tower. He wouldn't say it but he was scared for his friends. Clint was bleeding heavily and he was still going at it, and Steve and Natasha were hurt already. He didn't feel optimistic about this fight at all.

A few minutes later, the Avengers arrived at the base of Stark tower to see it covered in bodies of Chitauri mixed in with the odd police officer and civilian, but the extraterrestrials greatly outnumbered the latter. The Spartan was in the middle of the bridge surrounded by cars that had been dragged into their current positions that lead up to Stark tower firing at a horde of Chitauri cutting them down with automatic gunfire from the weapon Stark had seen earlier. The Chitauri were trying to advance on the armored warrior, flanking attempts were gunned down ruthlessly and forward charges were slaughtered. He occasionally ducked into the cover of the positioned cars and reloaded.

As the heroes approached he nodded to them and continued to fight. The Avengers took up the little slack there was, and the Chitauri retreated down the street and behind the corner of a large building with ornamental pillars.

"Stark take to the air, round in the stragglers and keep them away from civilians. Natasha, stay with him," Captain America pointed to the Master Chief," Barton hitch a ride to the rooftops with Stark and give us supporting fire".

As the Captain finished giving orders, the Spartan pulled out a rugged can with a bendable nozzle sticking from the top he sprinted over to where Barton had taken cover. he crouched near the archer and inspected the wound.

"This is Biofoam. It will stop the bleeding for a few hours until you can receive further medical attention." The unfamiliar warrior approached the bow and arrow wielding agent with the can.

"Sounds good," Barton said with a breathless voice heavy with suppressed pain.

After Barton had given him permission the Spartan jabbed the applicator into Barton's wound and pressed a button that was flush with the top of the can. Clint gasped and hissed in pain, but when the nozzle was pulled out the wound was packed and sealed. He caught his breath and tested his motion and was satisfied he could still fight so he gave a weak smile of gratitude. As Hawkeye was being treated, Thor arrived bleeding heavily from a shallow under his eye. He refused a bandage for it when silently offered by the Spartan.

"Hey, who are you by the way. I mean I'm grateful for the medical attention, but I can't just say hey 'Big Green' because we have someone else who's big and green." Clint joked

"Master Chief Sierra-117," he said as he introduced himself to the Avengers, who in turn introduced himself to him.

"I'm Cortana, the AI from the Forward Unto Dawn," Cortana said, earning some tired looks of interest from the Assembled heroes.

"Got it Chief and Cortana. I'm ready to go Tony." Clint said as he slipped his bow over his shoulder. Stark jogged over from where he had been keeping the Chitauri's head down and hugged Clint to his Chest and rocketed away to deposit the Archer on the rooftops.

"Captain, we're on the defensive, we should take the defensive and go after Loki. We get him and we take out the Chitauri's leadership."

"What do you have in mind?" Captain America asked as he used his shield to block a plasma bolt.

"I'll go after Loki, kill or capture him as necessary. You and Black Widow make a fighting retreat towards the Quin Jet you guys came down in, Cortana will provide me with directions to it when I'm done." The Spartan suggested to the Super soldier.

"Hey, Bruce is here, he's on a motorcycle heading your way." Iron Man interjected over the comm lines that Cortana had set up with Jarvis.

"Chief, I approve but take Loki alive if you can. He has a Spectre that takes people's minds over, keep an eye out for that. He also has a scientist with him, he's under Loki's influence. Try and bring him home if you can. He has intel on how to close the portal. Good luck Chief."

"We make our own luck." The Spartan said as he tore off into the Stark building. As he sprinted into the building, Doctor Banner pulled up in a motorcycle.

"Banner, we need you to get big and mean. We just need you to cause as much damage to the Chitauri as you possibly can. We're going to retreat when we bag Loki, so kept that in mind if you can."

"Sure thing Captain. I think the big guy will understand." When Banner said that he began to grow green while he looked around growing angry at the monsters that had caused all this death and hurt innocent people until with a roar, he doubled over and began to grow larger taking on a green skin tone. With a roar, the Hulk jumped away.
