Castiel gasped for air as he broke out of his grave. His fingers were raw and bloodied form clawing at the coffin for what seemed like days, his nails short and ugly looking. He blinked several times, getting used to the moonlight shining above him.

The cemetery was quiet and deserted, only the deceased to accompany him. Castiel lifted himself out of the grave, the suit he was buried in tattered and soiled. Castiel brushed himself off and stumbled through the graveyard, confused.

He couldn't be alive, could he? He stopped at a tall gravestone and leaned against it, tears of relief and anxiety rolling down his cheeks. Memories of the plane crashed flooded his mind; the whistling wind from the nosediving plane, screams from the other passengers and the prayer he repeated to God.

"Thank you, Lord, but why me? Why save me?" Castiel almost screamed, in denial. His voice was hoarse and pain shot through his throat. He wasn't of any worth, he was lonely astrophysicist who couldn't find a job. He couldn't keep a relationship longer than a year, all three of his exes dumped him. The memory of this tugged at Cas' heartstrings and he wiped his eyes. He ran a hand through his curly black locks and looked around the graveyard, fear making his skin crawl.

Castiel shuddered, wishing he had an extra coat or another layer of clothing as he walked the distance towards the short gate. It was merely 5 feet and easy to climb. He jumped over it and ran into the road, squinting at the street signs. He was a good four hours walk away from his apartment, and he groaned in exhaustion. Even though he had been dead for God knows how long, he could really go for a nap.

A nearby sign said the Interstate 55 was close by and Castiel groaned even louder, knowing no public transit buses would be coming anytime soon. The man collapsed in the road from exhaustion and fear, his knees surely going to bruise. He lay in the foetal position as he waited for someone to find him or accidentally run him over.

He shouldn't be alive, he was the Righteous Man who had been revived by the skies.
