Hi, there. This is my first Victorious fic. I just started watching this show today, and it totally exceeded my low expectations. Cat is my favourite, I adore her, and so I wrote a ficlet for her. I hope you like it. Feedback is always appreciated. :)

Her heel is broken.

She hobbles awkwardly to her locker, frowning. She hasn't got another pair, and these shoes are white with a pink bow, and they're so pretty.

Her bottom lip trembles, and she pulls out the polka-dot flats from the plastic bag stuffed under books. There is a note taped to the bag with 'for emergencies' written in pink sharpie. She whimpers as she slips the heels off her small feet and then hooks the flats onto her toes in their place.

"Hi, Cat," someone asks from behind, and she squeaks and whirls round.

Beck frowns down at her. "You okay?"

"Oh, hi, Beck," she answers breathlessly, her fingers going to her hair instantly. "Yeah, I'm fine, it's just my shoe broke."

"Oh, that's why you're littler than usual," he remarks, smiling a bit down at her. Her stomach flops happily. "Show me?"

She turns and tugs the shoe and the snapped-off heel from her locker. She turns back and hands them to him, her lower lip jutting out.

"Yikes," he says, scrutinising the shoe. "How'd you break it?"

"I don't know," she replies, her eyes filling with tears. "I was just walking and then it snapped and I fell."

He looks up and sees her expression. "Oh, Cat," he murmurs. "It's okay, you have loads more shoes."

"What's that supposed to mean?" she cries, shrinking back against her locker.

"Nothing, I'm trying to comfort you," he assures, putting a hand on her shoulder. Her eyes widen and she gazes up at him in adoration. She opens her mouth to say something, but is interrupted.

"Hey, Beck," Jade calls, blue streaks in her hair today. "Come on, study hall."

He pulls his hand away slowly, not taking his gaze away from Cat until he turns to Jade.

"Sure," he says quietly. "Later, Cat."

She does not catch the wary look Jade sends her as she rotates back to her locker, hiding the wetness on cheeks with her crimson hair.
