Adam was gazing around in awe. "Where did he get it?" he asked Rose. "When's it from?"

"When's it from?" Rose echoed.

"Yeah. I mean, time travel's possible in theory, so I'm not that surprised that at sometime we work out how to do it."

"We?"

"Humans. So how far in the future are you from?"

"I was born in 1987."

"Oh," Adam was momentarily disappointed, but he quickly brightened. "But when's he from? When do we start travelling in time?"

"What makes you think he's human?"

Adam looked at Rose like she was a little crazy. "What else would he be, an alien?" he laughed. When Rose just looked at him questioningly, Adam's mouth dropped open, "He's an alien?"

"Yes."

"But, aliens don't really exist."

"So what's all that stuff that you've been collecting, where do you think it all came from?"

"The future."

"The future, okay. And the Dalek?"

"The future," Adam repeated, but he was staring at Rose. "You mean aliens really exist? That there's other life out there, not just us?" Rose nodded. "And this is an alien ship?" Adam asked.

"Yes. The Doctor might look Human, but he's not."

"But you are?"

"Yes. I'm going to go and check on the Doctor, you be alright on your own?"

Adam was looking around the room Rose had said would be his, with new eyes - this was an alien ship, the Doctor was an alien. He couldn't wait to start looking for access panels and checking how things worked. "Yeah, I'll be fine," he told Rose.

"Don't start pulling things apart, she won't like it," Rose cautioned.

"Who won't?"

"The ship. Oh, did I not mention, she's not a machine, she's living. See you later." Rose grinned as she left the room, with Adam staring dumb founded after her. When she got to console room, the Doctor was sitting on one of chairs, his feet on the railing, staring into the distance. He was so lost in thought that he obviously hadn't realised she was there. "You okay?" Rose asked.

The Doctor roused himself from his memories and even found a smile for his companion. "Yeah, you know," he said. "How's your boyfriend?"

"He is not my boyfriend!" Rose objected.

"Maybe not yet, but he thinks he's in with a chance," the Doctor told her. "Where've you put him, not too close to my room I hope?"

"Right next door to you," Rose replied, amazing herself as she managed to keep a straight face. "Thought you'd want to keep an eye on him."

"You'd better be joking," the Doctor replied.

Rose grinned. "One floor down and six rooms across. Why'd you bring him if you dislike him so much?"

The Doctor shrugged, "You seemed to like him and there's nothing wrong with having a pet."

"I think he's a little overwhelmed by everything."

"Good."

Rose leaned on the railing in front of the Doctor and studied him, deciding that he looked more guarded and somber than usual. This definitely wasn't the time to ask him about the Dalek and how her touching it had brought it back to life. "Where we off to next then?"

"Somewhere that'll overwhelm him even more," the Doctor replied. "But first, I'm hungry."

"You're always hungry." Rose took his hand and pulled him to his feet. "Your turn to cook."

The Doctor forced a grin on to his face, that didn't quite reach his eyes. "You don't think maybe your pet should cook?"

"I think he's probably pulling his room apart as we speak to try and find out how the ship works."

"Well hopefully she'll electrocute him," the Doctor said and gave a mock wince when Rose punched him.
