It was a cold, winter evening when the Midgar news team broadcasted the event of a terrorist group that had blown apart one of the Mako reactors. The event struck fear into the people of the City for they knew the president would most likely take drastic measures against the group that was likely to affect them greatly.
While the people worried about what was to happen now, Cloud Strife wandered the streets with disinterest, his nose wrinkling against the smell of the bleak and grimy slums. He glanced at the watch, making sure that he would not miss the train that the rest of Avalanche had gotten.
He walked into the square and rolled his eyes as he noticed the people running around in a panic. As his eyes swept over the scene, he saw a man knock over a petite, brunette woman, her flowers from her basket scattering across the floor. She gave a soft cry and began grabbing them and placing them gently back into the box before she got to her feet and dusted herself off with a sigh. Cloud had not even been aware that he had been staring for so long but she obviously had felt his gaze and turned to face him.
"Excuse me? What is going on?" she asked, trying to peer around him.
"It's nothing…hey listen," he began, scratching the back of his head as he tried to figure out why he was wasting time talking to this woman when he hadn't ever spared anyone a glance before if they weren't important to him.
"Yes?" she pressed, bringing his attention back to her.
"Um…you don't see many flowers around here," he said lamely. She glanced down at the basket.
"What these? Do you like them? They're only one gil!" she replied, brining her soft, emerald eyes to meet his own. Cloud put a hand in his pocket without even thinking about it and handed her a gil. She smiled and let her hand wander through the basket before settling on a blue tulip. Cloud reached out his hand, his skin brushing against hers as he took the stem in his hand. She smiled again before walking away and Cloud watched her.
How was he supposed to know that one simple touch would change his life forever?
