Amanda sighed with a smile, looking back at the bussy port before coming aboard the ship that was going to take her to a better place. It's destination was to a glitterworld, quite lucky most would say, but Amanda knows quite a bit about who to talk to to get what she wanted.
"No job, nobody loves me here anyways… time to go to a better place" she thought to herself as she boarded the ship and started making her way to the cryptosleep casket she would be in for the rest of the travel.
Amanda was a child spy, was, because now that she's almost an adult she wasn't much use in that role, and lost her job. It was an urbworld she was leaving, a war-torn one, it was an age of conflict on her planet and she knew that staying isn't the best idea. Alexandria, the planet she was going to, is a promise for a better life to her that she fought so hard to get, with words and paperwork ofcourse, rather than her sharp aim she gained over the years behind enemy lines.
She put everything she had into the storage next to her place, before entering the cryptosleep casket. As the casket's cover closed, Amanda thought of only one thing, the better future she was on her way to. She relaxed and closed her eyes, she's been in cryptosleep a few times before, soon the air around her became cold and the last thing Amanda remembered before falling into suspended animation was the ship's engines starting up.
Amanda's fingers twitched.
Darkness, Amanda took a moment to figure out she was awake. She could barely think, but it was getting better. As her vision started going back to color from the complete darkness and ears started picking up sounds again she felt something shake her body. She blinked a few times to get her vision back to focus, and soon the casket's doors opened. It was this moment that she saw red flashing lights accompanied by the sound of sirens and ripped metal.
Amanda quickly pulled herself up and out of the casket with her weak arms, in the right time see a similar thing happening with the other cryptosleep caskets. After a quick moment of looking around she pushed herself off to a nearest window only to see that the ship has collided with another ship and now is being ripped into pieces. She quickly jumped to the nearest drop pod available, seemingly in the exact right moment. Right after the drop pod's doors closed shut with her inside she heard a loud bang and a woosh, characteristic for explosive decompression, followed by the sirens going silent, and the drop pod being detached from the ship.
After a while Amanda realized what just happened, her future, the promise of a better life, it was all ruined. Tears started forming in her eyes as the drop pod she was in tore trough the atmosphere of a planet she was about to meet. It only took a few minutes for the drop pod to land.
Amanda squinted her eyes as she was blinded by the sunlight that the opening doors let in. Looking across the hills and fields of the grassy land she landed on, she knew this is not what she was going for, and that most likely she's never ever going to get off this planet.
How could it all have gone so wrong?
