Soldiers

By Silvia Midnight

She was dancing amidst the cheery blossom trees, laughing as the wind blew the soft, pink petals down all around her. Nothing could ruin this spring day for her. Nothing. She'd been working too long and too hard. She didn't gibe a damn if she was acting like a childish 10-year-old. All cares were swept away with the warm wind. She threw back her head and laughed, again. It had been a long time since she had been able to laugh this freely. It was a beautiful, tinkling sound.

The sunlight glinted off of her long, blond tresses; her azure eyes were brimming with mirth. She was wearing a pale, cream-coloured tank top with grey drawstring sweatpants. She reveled in the freedom in which her choice of clothing allowed her to move; a sharp contrast from the severely cut business suits she usually wore, or the tight, binding corsets she had to wear with any of the absurdly expensive evening dresses she wore to the galas that the company required mandatory attendance.

The rent-a-cops that the company hired were long thrown off of her trail. She smirked. Ditching them was hardly even a challenge, considering the training that she'd been given. But that was a completely different life. It brought up some ugly memories, but it was all behind her now. She had made a different life for herself, one that was secure. It was time to let go of the ghosts of the past.

With a contented sigh, she flung herself on the sweet smelling grass, laid back, and then closed her eyes. Everything was perfect so far. Well, almost perfect. A barely imperceptible frown marred her delicate features. Takato, her boss and president of Kanori International, was a kindly old man who was currently pushing her in the direction of his son, Yamato. She scowled. She knew that Takato meant well, and it wasn't that Yamato wasn't a kind, lovely, and beautiful man who had expressed some interest in seeing her. He was. But the problem was that she didn't want to date anybody yet. She couldn't let go yet, and there was only one reason, which constantly pre-dominated her thoughts… him.

"Heero," she whispered.

A shadow fell over her, making her eyes flutter open. She gasped audibly, and the figure smirked.

"Hello Relena. Or, should I say, Natalia."

Authors Note: All chapters are probably going to be as short as this, just because my computer malfunctioned, and I'm only using pen and notebook paper. But, they short and sweet… ja ne? Happy reading.
