Chapter I: Artemis' Birthday
Artemis Fowl never really knew his parents. He lived with his aunt Jane Fowl and his Uncle Rupert. They were kind to him but didn't really love him as real parents should. Whenever Artemis would ask them about his parents, they would give him a funny look and tell him that his mother disappeared when he was really young, and his father was always out of town. Artemis Fowl couldn't even remember what his father looked like, and the only thing that he knew about him was that that was where he got his name. He didn't like how he was named after someone he hardly knew. Hopefully however, that was about to change.
Artemis was excited about today. It was his 16th birthday. It wasn't the birthday itself that had him excited as much as what was going to be happening that day. The day before, his absentee father had sent him a special letter. It told him that on his 16th birthday he would come to the Fowl Manor and meet Artemis Fowl to catch up. Artemis was excited but worried. His father, who he hasn't seen in over 15 years, suddenly sends a letter saying that he wants to meet with his son. Artemis was slightly suspicious of this. Hopefully it was all in best intentions. He hoped his father wasn't some drunk or some crazed psycho. The handwriting on the letter seemed legit, but it could have been written by a scribe or secretary or something of the like.
Artemis sat on the couch pondering this when his Aunt Jane walked in.
"Everything all right Artemis?" She asked tying to act concerned. This didn't come easily to Jane, who was a lawyer and always had to cover her emotions. Concern was not something that came easily to her.
"Oh everything is quite all right," said the pale Irish youth. "I'm just planning out my birthday,"
"Well I suppose that's all right," Jane replied. She had always thought that Artemis was a strange thing and that he should be doing things that other "normal" kids did like, playing video games, and doing sports, or at least watching television. Seeing him supposedly plan out his birthday was exactly the kind of thing that would satisfy her. Artemis didn't want to worry her because then she may think that she would get in trouble with the law if something were to happen.
Artemis sat there wondering when there was a rapping at the door. Jane stood up straight and headed for the door. Artemis stood up and wiped his hands on his slacks. He was fairly sure he knew who that would be.
"Would you wait a moment Auntie?" Artemis called, "I believe that the door is for me."
Aunt Jane turned around with a surprised look on her face. Her nephew was full of responsibility that she wasn't used to seeing in young people. Or in older people for that matter.
"Very well," She said trying to look composed. "It is your birthday I suppose. Wouldn't want the birthday boy to miss any visitors he may have."
Artemis headed for the door. His bodyguard Butler walked up to him. A mountain of a man, Butler would strike fear into the hearts of any possible enemy.
"Master Fowl," He rumbled. "There is someone at the door for you,"
"I am aware of the fact." Artemis replied curtly. Butler was quite possibly Artemis' only "friend" aside from the others in Haven.
Artemis walked to the door and opened it swiftly. Standing there was a young lad about his age with curly brown hair and a wispy goatee. He seemed to be nervous at the sight of Butler.
"You're in grave danger," The teen said. "There's no time. I'm here to take you to Camp Half-Blood."
