Disclaimer- I don't own Tithe, just a pair of Mudd combat boots that have 50 cents in their pocket.
Summery- Just what was the cool, calm and collected Roiben thinking during the infamous car ride to Delicious Orchards?
A New Enthusiasm
If we ever survive this, I am having a long talk with Kaye's mother about why her daughter should not be given her driver's license.
The only thought that keeps repeating through my head is 'We are going to die.' Not encouraging. Over the last few days, I have done some incredibly idiotic things, but none of them have been as stupid as letting Kaye drive.
That was suicide.
A few days ago I would have welcomed death. Now I am not quite sure...
Kaye just nearly smashed into another car. I had a heart attack for the third time in five minutes. Is that possible? I am afraid it is now. We may be shattering mortal medical laws as we drive. I would not be the least bit suprised. I am not going to look at Kaye. Mostly because I am afraid she is passed out on the steering wheel with her foot eternally on the gas, but I also am afraid that if I distract her, our odds of survival will sink even lower.
Kaye pulls into the orchard. I am out of the car before it even stops, counting breaths.
Four. I am alive. It is a miracle.
"Corny can drive back," she says in a small voice.
"I have a new enthusiasm for our quest," I say, my voice shaking slightly. I may, in fact, have a new enthusiasm for life.
Stranger things have happened.
