I wonder who would win...

Fire or ice?

Both flare out with unseen anger,

both burn.

Both of their pained selves cry out to each other

but only fire spits furiously,

while ice prefers to stay calm.

Their lives are so broken

that they'd never call for help

to the wood and snow.

They'd never destroy their pride,

even if ice claims to have none.

They'd never give up

even when the fire rages so terribly,

but they'd give up on themselves.

Part of me wishes

that the fire would sizzle away

and that the ice would melt

but how would that happen?

They'd fight for eternity

until

the fire would be sliced away

with the sun hissing at the ice.

I think they'd both lose,

putting out

the yellow lights

and the fireflies

leaving the brightness alone

until

only you, the sky,

would remain.
