Liam and his sister, Arianna, always knew they were different from all the other elven children in the Alienage. But they never would've expected this. The fact that they are mages just doesn't seem real, especially since she's seven and he's nine. Why did their magical talent have to develop so late? Better yet, why did it have to show up at all? Having known their family for so long; mom, dad, and little sister who was but a babe still on the milk, was making it all the more difficult to leave. Not only would they be leaving their family who they loved oh so much, but they'd have to leave their friends too? How could you expect that from a child? And expect them to come willingly at that. He had screamed in his head while the Templars were talking with his parents.
He had put up more of a fight than his sister did, as she had just stood there, silently looking at their mom and dad and begging with her eyes for them to do something, with tears streaming down her face. Liam had never been so angry with them before. How could they let the Templars take them away like this? From their home. Their friends. From Them? Upon all of the commotion going on, all the families they had come to know had emerged from their homes, some with their hands over their mouths, others with hands over their eyes, and others staring disbelievingly at the children and then their parents. No doubt they thought our parents were trying to hide us all this time. They're friends' parents clung to their kids, some disgusted that their kids had been playing with mages all this time, others frightened, others just sad to see us go. All Liam's anger vanished in that second, replaced by shame. He saw it in their faces. He was a monster. His sister who had always been gentle and kind was a monster. His whole family was filled with monsters. What if the little baby ends up a mage? What if there parents are mages? How else could they have hidden us away all this time. Even if they weren't they were monsters for not turning us in sooner. But how could they know before now? Is there an obvious tell?
Then out of nowhere, their dad launched himself at the one of the Templars and tackled him to the ground, with the element of surprise on his side. They had been talking calmly before then had they not? Liam watched as his papa continued to unleash his rage, throwing punch after punch at his face. Everyone stared in shock as the father grappled with the armored man. Most of the families had rushed inside their homes, afraid of the Templars wrath. Once the other Templars recovered from their shock, they helped their comrade, and restrained their father.
The Templar who was tackled seemed embarrassed, and now had a steady stream of blood coming from his nose and quite a few bruises already popping up on his face. Luckily, the Templars who were to collect them were gentle and forgiving. When the other two Templars returned and announced that they were now going to leave, the two siblings' mother bent down and hugged each of them, placing a kiss on their forehead. When she did this to Liam, she whispered a message, one that was for him and him only. Look after your sister. He looked up and saw deep sadness in her eyes and that she was on the verge of tears. With that, after having waved reluctantly to everyone and their dad who had re-emerged from thei- his home now, they turned and followed the Templars away from the only home they knew.
After a time, Liam had given up on the attempt to fight the Templars and sat still on the horse they had picked up a few towns back and gotten over the shock of … well, everything, he glanced at his sister who was asleep, cradled in one of the Templar's arms with her head on his shoulder, he resolved that he would do anything and everything to do the one thing that he could. Keep Arianna safe. At all costs and nothing is going to stop him from doing just that.
AN: My first fanfic and I absolutely LOVE DAO&DA:A. I don't think that anybody has done this story nor do I have time to look through ALL of the DA stories to see. So if there is an author out there that did one with sibling mages then I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do this but I really liked the idea of it and it's been swimming in my head.
*Update* I will always tag at the top of the page for any triggering or mature things. I'm currently going back through and updating everything again until I like it and have all the stuff in there that I want before uploading new chapters. I am determined to finish this as it was the first AU I've thought of and I've been thinking about it a lot lately. So! to any old readers that may have come back to this story, I do recommend reading through the fic again as like I said there's new stuff being added. Reviews are always appreciated. Thank you all for your interest!
Love,
