Author's Note: My first try at AWTR fic. The summary lyrics and the lyrics at the end are from The Sugababes's song 'Now You're Gone'. Hope you like. :) One line is sort of copyright from the movie. Won't take you long to guess though. ;)

A Chance to Love

---X---

They always said that the good girl fell for the bad boy, but he felt for them it had been the other way around, like their roles had been reversed, for them it had been different. For them it had always been different; in so many ways to one. Their story had started out as a happily ever after, it had been magical, absolutely mind – blowing fantastic. For once in his life everything had been perfect. Until one night when their happily ever after decided to take a turn for the worst and plunge deep, deep into the ground. She had leukaemia. What were the fucking chances of that? He had thought to himself, bitterly. Why? Why him? Why her? Why them? He even started to believe that if there was a higher power it must be doing everything it possibly could to ruin his life, doing all they could to cruelly take away his first glimpse of happiness.

Unlike himself, Jamie took it calmly, all in her stride. She was dying. God was very slowly snatching away all the brightness, all the life of an angel. But, even with everything, every day she still managed to smile, to say something that would bring a smile to his own eyes. Even though, deep down they knew that the inevitable was coming.

Yet, they still somehow managed to carry on. Just. And when he married her, it was without a doubt the greatest day of his life, for that day, just for that day they got to imagine that they really did get their fairytale ending. That day was followed by the perfect summer filled with more love then most people experience in a lifetime and then she went, with her undying faith.

He should have known from the beginning that for him to find someone like Jamie, it was too good to be true. Too good for it to last for an eternity. But he couldn't say that he wasn't grateful because unlike many other people out there he had got his chance. To know what it was like to actually truly, whole heartedly love and adore someone.

There's so much you gotta undo

If there's nothing left inside

Tell me who's gonna make it better?

When there's so much going wrong

Will I feel this way forever?

Or am I stronger now you're gone?

What did you think?
