Silence. It's the sound you hear but don't hear. Dread. It builds up in your chest, when your confronted by the truth. She couldn't believe Matt was doing this. In front of everyone in the cafeteria. He asked her if she loved him. Words seemed to escape. Her lips felt heavy. But finally a reply rippled out of her throat. "No." A weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She could feel a pair of green eyes boring into her back. Sending a heat of pleasure through her. Tim Riggins. God, how she wanted him. To claim him for herself. He was living at her parents place. More then once they had stolen moments to themselves.
Julie liked to point out to herself, that she hadn't slept with Tim. She was no Lyla Garrity. No, she had made a promise to herself. She would breakup with Matt before she slept with Tim.
"Then why are we together?" Matt's eyes were solemn. "You were safe, but it's not what I want." The true confession was bubbling up inside her. Threatening to spill over the edge. "Who is he?" Like Matt didn't know. He had come over last Saturday and found her curled up along side Tim on the couch. Watching Tom & Jerry. Her parents were in the kitchen. Matt was just to naïve to admit, that had he been any other guy. He would have yanked Tim up by his shirt and told him to stay the hell away from his girl. But seriously who would have the balls to say something like that to Tim Riggins.
Pulling herself together, Julie looked straight into Matt's eyes. "Tim, has been for a long time." The look on Matt's face was priceless. It was like Julie had shot him, and he stood frozen. Unsure if he should stand or fall down.
There it was again. That pleasurable heat. Only this time the taut well built body that went with it was standing behind her. As if on reflex Julie took a step back. Pressing into Tim and his arms came around her. Her hand found their way into his back pockets. Lois let out a gasp. She had never seen this coming. She was Julie's best friend. Yet Julie had kept it from her.
Tim's body roared with triumph. Julie had chosen him over seven. And she was publicly claiming him. Something Lyla would never have done. Matt seeming to trip over his feet, stumbled back a few steps. " So this is us breaking up?" What was he talking about? They really hadn't been together. More like friends who kissed on the side. Or whatever you want to call it. "Yeah, this is us breaking up." Tim tightened his arms around Julie just a little more possessively. She was his, there would be no big question. When he already knew the answer. Matt snatched up his back pack an hauled ass out of the cafeteria.
The bell rang making Julie jump. With a sigh of relief, she turned in Tim's arms to look up at him. A few chocolate tendrils had slipped into his face. Reaching up she brushed them away. Her thumb caressing his lips. Kissing her thumb pad, Tim cupped her face. Fitting together just right, the kiss started out gentle. But Julie was having none of it. Stretching her body full against Tim she buried her hands into his hair. A growl rippled from Tim and Julie swallowed it. His tongue grazed her lower lip and she opened up for him. The bell had long since went off, but neither one heard a thing. But their hearts beating as one.
