Notes: My first attempt at the
Branch Breakers pairing. The first two lines attacked me one day about two
months and this has been sitting on my laptop ever since. Thought it was about
time to share it.

"Why didn't we ever have an affair?" she questions one night before swiftly lighting her seventh cigarette. "I mean, it would have been the ultimate revenge." She laughs and smoke pours from her open mouth. He notices that her lipstick is smudged in the left corner.
"You wouldn't be able to handle me," he jokes, with an emphasis on the present tense that surprises even himself.
A perfect eyebrow arches slightly, and he swears she's sizing him up. It feels like a challenge. The whole night has. Smirk for smirk, shot for shot, they'd kept a frantic pace for hours now.
"Wanna bet?" She's feeling dangerous and he knows it, but whether it's from the vodka martinis or life's bullshit, neither is sure.
Does it matter?
That's the question he asks himself just before he bends her over the hood of his car and shoves her panties aside.
Apparently, the answer is no.
