FADE TO VOID

I should have known the demon would be him
The one that would end my linear existence
He was waiting for me in the fire caves, hence
The battle would begin
I heard the death-throes of a future world
That would be screamed if I didn't stop him
And all I could think about were when we posed as dims
Or when I saw my son die
Or when the moon rose over Cardassia
Or the Saratoga vanished in a blaze of light
That little ship gave the greatest fight
Of any ship of any fleet I've seen
Jadzia would be proud of me
Jennifer would be, too
I think of those I've lost, and those I've gained, too
And it hurts
But now the time has come
I hit him and I hit him hard, a mark is left, a trace
The flames rise up and show me his true face
I know now this is it
And as I fall with him down into the firepits
I think of Sarah and Dad and Kasidy and Dax
Of Miles and Julian and their respective knacks
Of Worf, a warrior born and bred
Quark, not a bartender, but a thief instead
And then there's Odo, strong and brave
Kira Nerys felt his pain
Weyoun never put up much of a fight
The Founder's cause was never right
Michael Eddington, who died for a cause
Vedek Bariel, who died for another's sins
Torah Ziyal lost her life prematurely
Jake's writing, like Carroll's, was all hurly burly
Shakaar, leader of the Resistance
Kai Opaka was the woman who told me of my pagh and to never say "can't"
Vic Fontaine, the hologram man
Admiral Ross always had a plan
Tain was good at the secret game
Zek had gained renown and fame
Rom is now ruler of a world
Ishka, his mother, who gained the respect of that world
Chancellor Martok, proud and true
Damar, a hero to a world renewed
Garak, just a simple tailor, a former spy
And I think of Kai Winn, and why she had to die
I think of Lieutenant Nog, and the future that he has
I think of Belle and Russell and all the tense that's past
I think of this and then I know
That I am truly home
