Drabble – Adornment – 300 Words
Laughter flowed through the room filling it with happiness. The walls of the beautiful hall were adorned with fine linens, the floors with exquisite rugs and the furniture covered elegantly. The people were no less beautiful. Hair filled with colorful embellishments, eyes lined to bring out their hidden beauty and bodies sheathed in the finest of fabrics.
In the middle of all of this finery sat Alexander but his thoughts did not match the happiness surrounding him.
He should have been on top of the world. Everything as far as the eye could see belonged to him. The world beyond these walls was his for the taking. He had a beautiful wife by his side, a young lover waiting to address his every need and a soul mate to share his dreams.
So why was he feeling so empty, so alone right now. What could possibly be missing with all that lie before him? Maybe he was going mad, as some had whispered behind his back.
Alexander's' eyes gravitated towards the side doors as he entered the room. He wore only a simple chiton and sandals. There was nothing in his long hair letting the long tresses flow down his lean back. He looked towards Alexander's glaze, blushing slightly, a smile on his face as he made his way to the center of the room and the center of his life.
The beauty of the room and the people around him disappeared as Alexander watched him walk towards him. There was no need for finer clothes, hair embellishments, makeup to make his eyes more becoming. He was perfect the way he was.
The loneliness in Alexander's heart disappeared, replaced with pure joy and contentment.
Ah, he thought, this is what I have been missing, my reason for breathing.
My life!
