CHAPTER 1
EARTH:
TRAINING CAMPGROUNDS
Right after their training with the Wild, Wild Pussycats. Evening arrives and it was time for dinner as they cook curry for themselves with ingredients provided by the pro-hero team, but Midoriya noticed Kota leave so he brings a plate of curry out to Kota's "secret hideout" which was a cave on a cliff.
"You're hungry, aren't you?" Midoriya said coming towards Kota "You can eat this curry" He continued.
"You.. How'd you find this place?" Kota said furiously.
"Oh, sorry. I followed your footsteps.. I thought maybe you would want something to eat.."
Kota however, tells him to leave his hideout, and that it's stupid to improve his quirk just to show it off.
"Your parent's…" Midoriya started. "Could they be Water Hose? With the water quirks?" Midoriya asked him which angers Kota, "Did Mandalay tell you?!"
"Oh, no, um, uh— Sorry!" Midoriya apologized.
"Yeah, I kind of ended up hearing about it and based on the information I got, I thought maybe—" Midoriya thought for a brief moment. "It was an unfortunate incident. I remember it."
"Shut up." Kota said with an angered tone, he continued by saying he doesn't understand why crazy people call themselves heroes or villains just to kill each other.
Midoriya realized that Kota's issue isn't just with heroes, it's with quirks and the superhero society in general. He tells him a story about his "quirkless friend" as an attempt to reach Kota. Still angry, he refutes Midoriya until he finally left.
While he was heading back to the others who were currently eating dinner, he noticed a blue light and heard whispers coming from within the forest. 'Huh? What's causing that blue light? Must be a few of our classmates with a flashlight' he thought to himself as he made his way back to camp.
REMNANT:
SHION VILLAGE FOREST
In a forest near Shion Village where Team RNJR was staying the night. Beyond the trees from where they were resting, Jaune was training, receiving instruction over and over again from Pyrrha through his Scroll which was set up on a stump.
"Alright, Jaune, just like we practiced. Follow these instructions. Shield up." An image of her instructed as Jaune sighs in pain remembering the night of the fall of Beacon before belatedly re-following her instructions. "Keep your grip tight. Don't forget to keep your front foot forward. Ready? Go."
Jaune resumes his training while Ruby, who watched with pained eyes before turning away to leave him training as she went back to where Ren and Nora were, who were sound asleep. But all she could do was stay in her sleeping bag and stare at the night sky while a little will-o-the-wisp floats above her head.
"Why hello little guy" she giggled. "Where are your other little friends?" she questioned the little wisp as she got up from her sleeping bag searching for other will-o-the-wisps. But to no avail did she find any.
"That's weird, don't will-o-wisps like you go around in groups?" she thought out loud which caused Ren to slowly wake up as he looked towards Ruby.
"What's going on?" he asked quietly trying to not wake the thunderous Nora.
"Oh! Sorry, Ren.. I didn't mean to wake you. You can go back to sle—" she whispered loudly but was cut off by Jaune, which Ruby assumed he was either done with his training or he noticed them talking.
"I didn't know you guys were st—" "SsSsSHhh" they both hushed him hoping not to wake Nora up. Unfortunately, she did while shouting out pancakes.
"PANCAKES! Huh? Wh— Oh.." She looked at her teammates embarrassed. The team then broke out laughing until Nora asked them what was going on.
"Why are you guys still awake?" she yawned.
"I was going to ask the same thing" Jaune added.
"If you were, then why were you out of your sleeping bag with your weapons?" Ren asked the knight.
"Were you.. Doing some secret midnight training!? Gosh, Jaune! Way to improve." Nora exclaimed with excitement.
"I— I wasn't. More like a midnight stroll, and I brought my weapons in case Grimm showed up" he lied to his teammates which was very convincing however, Ruby knew it was a lie and decided to keep quiet.
"So why were you guys up?" Jaune said referring to Ren and Ruby.
"I was asleep until Ruby said something" Ren said, which made everyone turn their heads towards her with questioning looks on their faces.
"Is there something bothering you, Ruby?" Nora asked with a concerned look on her face.
Ruby sighed, "It's nothing, I couldn't sleep and a will-o-wisp was keeping me company" pointed her finger to the wisp, to her surprise was still there.
"Oh." The other three said in surprise. "Doesn't wisps like these travel in groups?" Jaune asked.
"Yes, will-o-the-wisps travel around in groups but they usually don't go near people unless they want something" Ren explained.
The wisp, however, started to make whispering sounds and move in circular motions right after Ren's explanation as a gesture that it did need something or someone.
"Huh?" "What's it doing?" "Whoa!" everyone exclaimed except for Ren who seems to be used to this.
"Ren! You're not surprised by this!?" Nora shouted.
"I've encountered a few wisps before so I'm quite used to their gestures" Ren stated calmly.
Then other wisps started to appear one after the other forming what seems to be to be a trail leading somewhere. "Except for this" Ren said in shock.
"Does it— I mean— Do they want us to follow them?" Jaune said nervously. The wisps then did the same gestures as a sign of yes.
"I think so" Ren stated the obvious.
"Well alright team, let's grab our stuff and follow the wisps" Ruby announced in excitement.
"Are you sure? What if it's a trap?" Jaune worried.
"Jaune, it's okay. Whatever happens, we'll all get out of it. I promise" Ruby smiled as Jaune calmed down.
"You're right. Thank Ruby" Jaune smiled back.
"ALRIGHT! Let's follow the wisp trail!" Nora shouted.
"Coming!" Jaune and Ruby shouted back.
"I wonder where they're leading us" Ren said out loud, making the team wonder as well, what's at the end of the trail.
EARTH:
BEASTS' FOREST MOUNTAINS
Meanwhile, back on Earth. Class 1-A and 1-B were sleeping soundly while the League of Villains newly formed Vanguard Action Squad awaits atop a mountain overlooking the camp.
"I mean, I don't like this. It's not cute" Himiko complained about the style of her gear.
"This was orchestrated by the designer behind the scenes, right? Appearances don't matter as long as it makes sense" Mustard argued to Himiko.
"I'm not talking about that! I just don't want to wear this!" she complained once again waving her arms frantically. Magne, Moonfish and Spinner shortly arrive.
"That makes seven" Dabi confirmed of the members present.
"I don't care, just let me at 'em. I'm getting to pumped up " A masked villain said anxiously.
"Shut up, you crazy bastard" Dabi immediately cuts him off and tells them to wait for the remaining three villains. "Gathering a bunch of punks who are just strong will only increase the risk" he explained before continuing. "It's better to have a small group of experienced elites. First, we make them realize that their peace is resting in our hands." But little did they know that their plan was all going to change.
EARTH:
TRAINING CAMP DORMS
"You should probably give it up"
"How can you even stand in the same ring as me?"
"I cannot simply say that you can be a hero even without power"
"I'm sorry Izuku! I'm sorry. I'm sorry!"
"Even though your Quirkless you're pretending to be a hero, Deku?"
"What the hell can you do!? You're Quirkless!"
"It's not bad to dream, but you have to consider what's realistic, young man"
"If you wanna be a hero that badly, there's a quick way to do it. Believe that you'll be born with a Quirk in your next life and take a last chance dive off the roof!"
As Midoriya remembered every word they all said to him. The disappointment, the reality, the pain. He followed Katsuki's advice and took his final step off the roof sealing his fate and with that there was nothing—
'AaAhHh!' he screamed in his own head as his eyes shot wide open. He sat up while frantically breathing in the air while gripping his shirt against his chest feeling his pulse beat faster than ever.
'Calm down. It was just a nightmare' he mentally told himself feeling his heartbeat slow down.
"That felt so real…" he mumbled to himself laying back down on his mattress trying so hard to go back to sleep, however, the feeling of death crawled its way into his mind making him feel uneasy about falling asleep again. 'Might as well go drink water' Midoriya thought to himself as he stood up to grab a water bottle from his bag.
"Huh.. Where did I put it? I must have left it during this morning's training" he questioned himself to no surprise still answered it at the end. "Midoriya?" He was startled by this voice, turning to see Iida awake.
"Iida? Sorry I didn't mean to wake you" Midoriya apologized.
"Why are you still awake? It's already late at night" Iida asked him with a concerned look.
"I really am sorry. I—" "Eh? You bastards are still up huh?" Iida and Midoriya turned their direction to the new voice who obviously turns out to be Bakugo.
"Kacchan?! S— Sorry to wake yo—"
"Just go back to sleep already you damn nerd! You too four-eyes!" he shouted while rolling to his side. Bakugo's shout though caused everyone in the boys' dorm to suddenly wake up by this outburst.
"Huh?" "Whoa!" "Is everything okay?" "What…?" "..is going on?!"
Five boys exclaimed namely Koda, Mineta, Shoji, Kaminari and Kirishima. While every boy in the dorm did wake up they automatically went back to sleep to avoid Iida's long explanation on why they should go to sleep for tomorrow's training.
"S— Sorry everyone! It's my fault Kacchan shouted…"
"You okay bro? You look like you had a nightmare?" Kirishima asked Midoriya while rubbing the back of his head.
"Um.. Yeah.. I kinda had one and it felt.. Real.. I just wanted to get some water but I left it during this morning—" Midoriya explained in a nervous tone only to be disturbed by Iida.
"You can have some of my mine, Midoriya"
"Ah! No, it's alright. I'll just get some from the cafeteria" Midoriya stood up.
Then Todoroki suddenly sat up groaning while rubbing his eyes, this surprised everyone who was awake.
"Whoa. Todoroki, You okay?" Kaminari asked him.
"Yeah. I'm just thirsty" Todoroki answered back.
"Hmm… Thirsty for what, Todoroki?" Mineta teased while making a smirk face.
"Mineta! This type of behavior is unacceptable. People are tryi—"
Iida silently confronted Mineta but was disturbed when a small explosion, not to loud to wake up everyone, was heard.
Bakugo with his hand up emitting smoke groaned with an unsatisfied look on his face. "If you morons won't shut up, fine! I'm taking a walk until you're all dead asleep" he said.
"Bakugo, it's not wise to walk alone outside at night. I suggest you go with someone or—"
"Shut it, Four-eyes" Bakugo muttered to Iida.
Todoroki then stood up heading for the door. "I'll be grabbing some water at the cafeteria. Midoriya."
"Huh?" Midoriya said with a startled look.
"Didn't you say you were gonna get water from the cafeteria too?" Todoroki questioned him.
"O— Oh! You heard that? I guess I'll just go with you" Midoriya replied with relief.
"Tsk. Do what you want, Deku. I'm taking a walk" Bakugo declared.
Iida sighed, fully aware that convincing him to stay would be futile. "I'll go there with you. As Class Representative, it is my solemn duty to ensure the class' safety" Iida told the other two.
"Thanks!" Midoriya replied while Todoroki nodded in response.
EARTH:
TRAINING CAMP CAFETERIA
Midoriya, Todoroki, Iida and probably Bakugo, was just about to reach the cafeteria until— "Hey! You kids shouldn't be up by this hour"
It was none other than the pro-heroes, Vlad King who spoke with Eraserhead right behind him.
"Vlad King. Mr. Aizawa. We are truly sorry to disturb you at this time of hour" Iida apologized
"Actually, Todoroki and I were heading to the Cafeteria to get some water and K— Kacchan was going for a walk outside while Iida decided to come so he can keep an eye on us" Midoriya explained nervously.
"We couldn't sleep so we decided to do something in the meantime" Todoroki added while Bakugo remained silent glaring at the three of them.
Both teachers looked at each other before speaking.
"Hm. You kids couldn't sleep huh?" Vlad King said turning to look at his fellow teacher for an answer.
"You have half an hour to stay up. Under one condition. Don't cause any trouble" Aizawa warned.
"Thank you, Mr. Aizawa, Vlad King" Midoriya said as he smiled
"Call me Mr. Kan, just like my students"
"Tsk. I'm going for my walk now" Bakugo said going ahead "Midoriya, let's go" "Coming!" He replied to Todoroki.
"Iida, you watch over them. Don't want them causing any trouble for everyone" Aizawa commanded.
"Yes, sir!" Iida replied back.
EARTH:
TRAINING CAMPGROUNDS
"Um… Kacchan where are we going?" Midoriya asked. "Where do you think, Deku?"
"Bakugo, I think it is best if we head back now. It's been ten minutes since we left the cafeteria" Iida said.
"Shut up, all of you" Bakugo told them with a confused look on his face.
"Bakugo! As Class Representative I am telling you we're getting too far from ca—" Iida complained but was stopped when Todoroki put his hand over his mouth.
"Sshh. Look" Todoroki said in a commanding voice taking his hand off from Iida's mouth.
"What is that…?" Iida said with a confused look the same one with everyone else.
A blue light emitting from within the forest, the very same light that Midoriya saw when he was heading back to camp. Only this time it seems to have stopped in place.
'Its… That weird light again…' Midoriya thought, showing a confused look with a hint of shock.
"Hey Iida, was there anyone who left the Cafeteria during dinner?" He asked him with concern.
"I'm not quite sure myself" Iida said looking at Bakugo and Todoroki if they knew anything about it.
"What are you looking at me for, Four-eye?!" Bakugo shouted.
"I only noticed Midoriya leave during dinner but no one else" Todoroki confirmed.
"Why did you leave during dinner, Midoriya?" Iida asked him.
"I… Kinda followed Kota. You know the boy who… Um… Punched me?" Midoriya told him while Bakugo scoffed at that statement. "I decided to give him dinner since it seems like he was hungry and I saw that same weird light when I was heading back. I assumed it was one of our classmates..." He finished.
"Well then, I guess you're wrong" Bakugo said unamused.
"Should we go find Mr. Aizawa? Tell him about that weird light?" Midoriya questioned them.
"No need" Just like that, Aizawa was approaching them startling the four of them of his sudden appearance. "I heard everything, so you saw this weird light and didn't tell us, Midoriya?" He said with a tired tone and expression.
"I— Ugh.. I assumed—" "Alright. I get it. You assumed it was a friend of yours with a flashlight. Am I correct?" "Um… Yes, sir.." Midoriya answered with disappointment.
Aizawa looked at the four of them pondering if he should take them with him to investigate or send them back to the camp unwatched. Knowing them, they would either spread the news and cause panic or investigate on their own the moment he turns his back.
The four of them stared at him nervously and confused on what he was thinking and just before any of them could ask a question, Aizawa sighed going through his hair and spoke.
"Alright, you four are coming with me" This statement is what startled them. Shocked expressions spread across their faces. Except for Bakugo who was amused now that he gets to do something aside from training his quirk with a barrel of water and sweat.
"The fact that you four have quite some history dealing with villains. You could easily get involved in the situation with or without a supervisor" He stated bluntly and sighed before continuing "To make things easier, I'll be keeping an eye on you"
"But sir! You said that we should be keeping out of trouble" Iida complained earning a murderous glare from Bakugo. Todoroki could have sworn he heard him cuss at him for a second.
"Yes, I know what I said. But That was getting into trouble on your own. Being supervised is another. If things get rough I'll be sending all of you back to inform Vlad and the others. Do not engage unless told to, understood?" He instructed.
"Yes, sir!" Midoriya replied back nervously, Todoroki and Iida with a firm tone and Bakugo with an excited yet somewhat murderous look.
"I mean… What could go wrong? We're just investigating. Right?" Midoriya whispered to the rest only to be heard by Todoroki who gave him a nod.
EARTH:
BEASTS' FOREST
As they were walking towards the light to investigate, it started to move a bit further away making them more cautious of their actions and surroundings. It has been over a while since they've started walking that the camp is hard to see from where they are.
"Hey! It's been five minutes since we've started walking. When in hell are we going to get there!" Bakugo complained out loud and just like that the weird light suddenly disappeared.
"Huh?! Where did it go?" Aizawa said alarming everyone. "Is it a trap?!" "Wait!" Todoroki told Midoriya. Then an orb of blue fire appeared right before them as if on queue was waiting for this moment.
They readied themselves expecting an attack thinking the orb was caused by a certain quirk but the orb to their surprise stayed frozen in place. They approached it still with their guard up.
"If someone's quirk is causing this show yourselves" Eraserhead commanded, however, the wind was the only reply that could be heard. Todoroki all of a sudden walked towards it and reached his hand out as if he's giving a lost puppy some guidance.
"What are you doing?!" Iida shouted to Todoroki, but he's already touched the flame. Everyone's expression turned to shock and fear of what's to happen to their fellow classmate and student.
But Todoroki seemed confident. He's now holding the blue flame in his hand and whispers could be heard.
"Todoroki. Drop that thing and stop whispering to it" Aizawa said.
"This flame is not caused by a quirk" said Todoroki.
"Are you sure? Maybe the person is waiting for all of us to let our guard down" Midoriya whispered to Todoroki as he was approaching him.
"I'm positive. Also, it wasn't me whispering it—" "Then that means there's someone speaking through that thi—"
"Shut up, Deku!" Bakugo shouted at Midoriya before he could continue mumbling.
Aizawa just sighed and asked "What were you saying, Todoroki?"
"I was saying, it wasn't me whispering. It was the flame. Though Midoriya is technically right. No one was speaking through it though. It was this thing"
"What?!" Bakugo shouted in confusion. "What are you saying, Todoroki?" Aizawa asked.
"Have you heard of Onibi (鬼火)?" He questioned them.
"Yeah, they were mentioned at least twice in our Social Studies class back at grade school" Midoriya confirmed which annoyed Bakugo.
Todoroki explained to them how he read on these supernatural creatures. It's features and looks, the number in groups, time and place of appearance. It even took less than two minutes to explain the Onibi to all five of them.
"Iseesoinamericatheyarealsoknownaswillowispsandtheyaregenerallybluebuttheresalsobluishwhiteandyellowandredtheycanbeingroupsoftwentyandtheyappearduringthesummerwhichisrightnowtheyappearinforestsoranynatureareaorwhentheywantsomething—"
Midoriya mumbled to himself to recollect the information that was given to them until he realized what he has done.
"My bad…" He said nervously.
"So does this thing want something or what?" Bakugo said in anger since he doesn't get to beat the crap out of something.
Several Onibi appeared one after another forming a pathway of fire towards a certain mountain. The five of them gave of surprised looks, looking at each other in confusion.
"Iida, head back to camp and tell the others of this situation" Aizawa commanded.
"Right! I'll be ba—"
Before he can even take a step, other Onibi appeared in a form a wall to prevent him from leaving the area. Looks of fear appeared on their faces, afraid of what the Onibi wants.
"Um.. Do you want us to follow you?" Midoriya asked the first Onibi in the line. The Onibi's flame grew larger and brighter, then back to what it's original form. The five took its action as a sign of approval.
"Alright, we'll follow you but I warn you if we're all gone for a very long time. The others will come looking for us" Aizawa said in a pissed of voice that the students never heard of before, which kind of scared them a bit. They nodded in response and followed the path with Aizawa in front and his students behind him.
"Is it weird for me to feel excited and scared at the same time in a situation like this?" Midoriya asked nervously towards them but somehow they were all stuck to their own thoughts to even hear his question.
As they follow the Onibi, they can't help but feel a strange vibe around them as if they were being watched, not by a person but rather a more spiritual being.
Author's Note:
Hey everyone, Linzyia here! So this is my very first FanFiction let alone story published on any platform. I've had this idea for a very long time (and by a long time, I mean more likely a year or two) since I've started watching these two series. I'll be honest I'm quite a beginner at these type of things, so please forgive me if my grammar is not understandable.
I finally gathered the courage to write my story and publish it after a month (which is right now.) The fanfiction plot was already written a month ago in my notebook but I never thought of releasing it until now.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the first chapter. This is somewhat like a prologue if you ask me but I'll just consider it the first chapter. Also I might not be able to post frequently due to my studies at school and practices for my school play.
Thank you so much for reading!
Yours, Linzyia~
