she lives, because he saw her last

Shun is sure that, despite how many had died, Ruri is still alive.

That's because he saw her dragged from the battlefield: kicking, screaming, trying to reach for him. He saw them toss her deck and her duel disk and inject her with something – drug her so she fell, limp, but didn't turn in to a card. Not like everyone else. Attacked or losing duels. Becoming cards that caught aflame in the spreading fire.

He saw friends. Comrades. He couldn't stop though. He neede to reach Ruri. Ruri is family.

And the last he saw of Ruri, she was dragged through something black with those bastards from the Fusion dimension. And he'd been too far away to reach her.

Not like everyone else they'd left behind to burn, die.

And that's why. He won't stop for his comrades still because Ruri is out there. There was no reason to drag her away just to turn her into a card like everyone else. There was something else… And that something would keep her alive until he found her.

But that doesn't mean his heart doesn't scream when he loses another comrade, or it doesn't sing in relief when he finds one.
