Today

Nisha is just an ordinary girl, as anyone who knows her would point out. Her face is not eye-catching. Her black hair is braided just like any other girl on the street; the same with her sharp, dull eyes. She spends her time doing chores and taking naps, because her mother is on her sickbed and her father ran off somewhere. Nisha doesn't really care for him. It's not like she could remember him anyway.

She works as a waitress at the bar. Mainly, it's a job that everyone would find to be unpleasant, if not for the small above average standard salary and no age restriction. After all, she is just a fifteen year old kid who needs to use all the money she earns to buy the medicine her mother needs. Many waitresses have been given a small tip when they give a special service to the customer. Luckily for Nisha, she has a petite body and her overly big clothes cover what men want. They usually write her off as a brat.

"Mother, I'm going now," She says, putting on her shoes, "do you want anything?"

A dry cough is all she gets.

She's fading quickly.

Her eyes become even duller, if possible. She knows that her mother cannot be cured. The years of hard work and taking care of her alone have made the old woman worn and broken beyond repair.

A salty breeze greets her when she opens the door. Feeling a bit refreshed, she starts her tiny adventure to her job.

She strolls through the marketplace, heading toward the outer part of town. The town is full of people, smiling and laughing. Yet sometimes when Nisha glances in an alleyway, there are people curled into a ball, suffering from starvation.

Today is different though.

Two children, dressed in ragged clothes, are eyeing the crowd as they hide in an alleyway. She carefully hides her tiny money bag in her clothes and makes sure it's secure before continuing on.

If I guess right, they will…

"Thief!" A man shouts angrily as he chases the small children while they run away. People just notice the shout, yet do nothing. Thievery, rape, and even murder occur like an everyday event. People who don't suffer from the consequences, turn their eyes away and choose to be ignorant instead of face the reality.

Like her, like everyone else.

Selfish and ugly.

She chuckles darkly and continues on with her merry day.

I wish today will be boring as ever.

In this strange, twisted world.
