He wasn't like the others. He had dreams that outshone everyone else's, and he had faith in them. He was special, he was unique. And his name was Dib.
I haven't known him my whole life, so I can't tell you if he's always been like this, but I can tell you what I know. He was a child with an astounding amount of knowledge and kindness, held in a slightly larger than normal head. He had dark black hair in the form of a scythe, wore a black trench coat, and had soft brown eyes. Most people would've assumed that he'd follow his father's path as a scientist, but anyone who knew him well, like me, knew that he had different ambitions in life.
Ever since he was little, Dib loved the paranormal. Proving the existence of aliens, monsters, and ghosts was his prime goal in life, but his real dream was to go to space, to discover new life and planets that he wasn't able to see through his telescope. I find this dream quite extraordinary, but I guess that's just me.
No one liked Dib, and they thought his dreams were crazy. His classmates, teachers, and even his family, didn't listen to him when he said he found an alien. I know Dib was right though, because I am that alien.
I was sent to Earth to find the planet's weaknesses, and wait for The Armada to come and destroy it. To avoid an uproar, I disguised myself in front of the humans, and they haven't asked once why my skin remained green. Dib was the only one smart enough to actually see the truth, but as I said, no one would listen to him.
I regret it now, and here's why. I should say that I wasn't there to witness this. My sidekick Minimoose recorded it for me.
The season was winter, a very cold winter. Dib's father remained in his lab, almost forgetting the fact that he had children at home. Dib had noticed that they were low on food. His sister Gaz, indifferent to her brother, made him go get some food from the store. Being kicked out of his house, plus the fact he was hungry himself, made him go.
Dib was sick with a fever, but he wasn't giving in to his illness. He continued to press on through the blizzard that had started to find the nearest store. It was hard for him and his fever was slowing him down a bit. The people around him ignored his presence, and he was being pushed back and forth by the crowd, until he collapsed, striking his head against a brick wall. Nothing changed. Everyone continued to walk on, not noticing his motionless body.
I was quite worried actually, from what I saw, Dib wasn't about to get up anytime soon, or have anyone helping him up for that matter. I was praying to my Almighty Tallests that he was okay. My heart felt lighter when I saw him walk into our classroom though, but he seemed different. He seemed cold and joyless. Nobody talked to him, which wasn't a first, but every time I tried to engage him, he blocked me out completely. Instead of our usual bickering in the hallways, he walked on. He wasn't like my enemy nor my friend. More like someone passing by in my life.
After Skool ended, I decided to ask him what was wrong. I rushed to find him without really thinking what to say! How was he, are others picking on him, ANYTHING to hear him speak to me! I found him about to leave, with that blank look on his face. Without thinking, I jumped to hug him. Only to realize I was grasping air.
